KEZ HD-2 Goes All Christmas in September!!

Might be the earliest flip yet in the Phoenix radio market to all Christmas music, but 99.9 KEZ HD-2 has flipped from their classic hits format to all Christmas music, all the time. When this flipped occurred, I'm not sure because I just stumbled upon it today flipping through the dial. It could have started today or a month ago and nobody noticed because we are talking about HD radio after all.

So if you can't wait until the middle of November for 99.9 KEZ to go all Christmas, turn it to their HD-2 subchannel for all Christmas music, all the time! Nothing like Christmas music when it's still 100 degrees outside lol.

They put All Ho-Ho-Ho Music on 99~Nine HD~Too sometime over the summer. Guess that's why drive-by shootings are down this year...everyone is simply having a wonderful Christmas time!

Absolutely Doc! One wonders what ratings 93.7 FM would get if I Heart Debt would flip it to all Christmas music all year round versus the non-existent KFYI-2 ratings and now the new I Heart Debt Spanish-language format. I guarantee you, considering the HUGE success of Christmas music on 99.9 KEZ-FM during the holiday season, it would be better than what 93.7 gets right now!

Poor I ♥ Debt. Just about everything they've tried on 12~Thirty since canning Oldies for oldies and Danny Davis, has failed. Remember Smooth Jazz on KOY? How about Business Noose on KOY? Then KFYI second string programming on KOY? Now they find themselves up against even more competition and KNAI's recent moves. Might as well make it a pure simulcast with KGME so 9~Ten can go up against KMVP and KQFN on FM.

At least they have a fighting chance to get on a buy they would be left out of with Regional Mexican. I doubt that putting 910 on 93.7 would make 910's revenue increase. Because that's what drives the bus at the end of the day.

KEZ HD2 was Christmas on September 1st. Yeah, when it was still 110 in the shade. And it took members of this board over a month to comment about it. Ho Ho HO!

I think five of us now have HD~Too radios. Anyway, we're all accustomed to Ho-Ho-Ho music being played too early, so this wasn't breaking noose.

My HD~Too never leaves 93.3 HD2......

Same here, my radio's presets include 93.3 HD-Too, 99.9 HD-Too and 101.5 HD-Too (CBS Sports radio lineup is far superior to that of ESPN Radio, NBC Sports radio, Yahoo! "Everyone's personal information was hacked" Sports Radio, Bleacher Report Radio, etc...)

I wish we had some more variety with the HD stations here in Phoenix. Some markets are lucky and have, wait for it, HD-Three and HD-Four sub-channels! (HD-Four spotted in Seattle last year, nearly broke my HD radio). Someone needs to tell Bonneville to do something with their Arizona Sports 98.7 HD signal. The HD-1 signal is delayed by five seconds plus from the main carrier and they have no sub-channels. What's the point in even broadcasting in HD if you have no HD-Too?

It's been Christmas since July. It took off iHeart 70's in July and then left it as Christmas in July and sometime in late August just changed it to KEZ Christmas. It's been Xmas for over three months.

You don't get all the multipath while driving down Central or down the 51? (I almost said Dreamy Draw... now there's a road nobody misses.)

Seriously, though. After you get used to listening to HD and no picket-fencing interference while driving around it's hard to go back.

I listen to 101.5 HD2 as I drive home nightly as well, since KQFN decided that programs from SB Nation (former Yahoo/Sporting News Radio) after Farrell’s show would bring more listeners. I don’t know if that will last once Entercom gets its hands on the station though.

I’ve always wondered why Bonneville never opened up a 98.7 HD2 to simulcast ESPN 620.

Speaking of HD Radio receivers, Best Buy has their Insignia portable on sale. Grab one if you can find one!

How's the speaker on that one? The Sangean HDR-16 is nearly 3x the price, but it looks like it is better quality. Does it even make sense to invest in HD Radio in this market vs regular FM?

Mother Hubbard should engage the RDS on 93~Three HD~Too. And at the very least, display the station as Oldies 92~Seven KAZG.

The speakers are not bad for a radio of its size and price point.

As for HD in Phoenix, it’s up to your taste. If you enjoy the oldies on 92.7 but not its signal, then it’s worth it. The processing on some stations (noticeably KSLX) is also better on HD. I think that the radio groups aren’t using the subchannels wisely though (there should be more AM simulcasts, in my opinion).

Fair enough. Agreed about the AM's. In particular, would have liked to see KGME, which is the local Westwood One sports affiliate, on an FM subchannel. I don't get the greatest reception on 910 in my car, so I'm guessing it won't be that great inside either. The sports radio scene out here seems so different from SoCal..where virtually everything was on AM, and here Bonnevile has a 100kW FM monopoly with all of the local teams.

For asuJorge, Doc, Eric, or anyone with an HD radio:

Does KDKB 93.3 HD2 broadcast in real stereo, or is it the same mono signal that airs on 92.7? I have never heard any song on K224CJ 92.7 with any stereo separation, and it's been my go-to station ever since KOOL became "your 80s crap leader" (and probably '90s by now too).

Closed circuit for the Old Gringo: I know about the demos and the 25-54s and the 55+ and the agency buys, etc.--I'm just curious about what one hears on 93.3 HD2.

No & No. Same for Lumberyard 14~Forty. Los Buckeye Boyz understand why they don't do stereo on 92~Seven, but 93~Three HD~Too should be stereo. Sorry it took so long to respond to your inquiry...we were planting our winter lawn on the roof of the '76 Gremlin.
