KFAB 1110

I heard this station last night..I'm never notice it til now, I'm wasn't sure til I heard the same program on 1120 KPNW Eugene, OR..Coast to Coast AM...

It comes in stronge then weak, I have Null KDIS to hear it

Back in the early 1960's, I lived in Riverside, CA. 1110 at that time was KRLA (now KDIS) with 50,000 watts day and just 10,000 watts at night. At sunset, KRLA dropped their power and went to a very directional pattern with a VERY sharp null to the east. Even just 40 miles east of the 1110 towers, it was normal to hear KFAB mixing with KRLA through the night in Riversde.

KFAB has a pretty good nighttime signal over much of the western US. With 50 kw, all pointed westward, it booms into the interior West - and would certainly do well right up to the PCH if KRLA wasn't present.

Yes, I know it's KDIS now - but I still have trouble accepting that..... :p

I've been going to the west coast at least once or twice a year (and sometimes more) on business travel for more than 25 years. KFAB has never been much of a problem anywhere except basically in Los Angeles, Orange, and coastal San Diego counties. My wife's brother used to live in the Inland Empire....where KFAB trashed KRLA on a regular nightly basis.

I wonder if it's KBND in Bend, OR? It's a news/talker with the coast to coast AM according to its website. I heard KBND in western OR several years ago during sunset hours but not mid-day as I was west of the Cascades.

Everytime I try to get an ID, it's fades out to the point I can't hear it..

But couple mins later it will come stronge again, when it breaks for commercial's it fades then back to being stronge when the program returns.. It's like toying with me

Mario....

If you keep at it, you should be able to eventually snag KFAB. 50KW mostly aimed at you. I'd think you could null KBND, which should help. As I said, it's been pretty easy for me on the west coast....including barefoot on the SRF 37 Sony Walkman.

Well I have KDIS and KLIB to tent with at night here in Vallejo

Hmmm....

Just looked at the Radio-Locator nighttime map for KLIB, and can see where they could be a problem. If you nulled them, you'd likely also be nulling KFAB. That said, I've heard them before in Napa Valley, so I still think if you kept at it, you still might hear them underneath at some point.
