KFAQ and the John Birch Society

I've caught Pat Campbell's program and "Live at 5" the last few days, and all I can say is wow. What the hell happened to that place?

I know I gave some hell to Joe Kelly a couple of months ago, but his program is about as tame as the late "Uncle Zeb" compared to what's coming out of the old 1170.

Are Elvis Polo and Pat Campbell playing to the crowd or are they really as out there as their shows seem to reveal? And by out there, I mean being an affiliate of the "John Birch Society" radio network.

I guess what's being broadcast on 1170 is perfectly normal and I'm the crazy one.

There was a time when peoples jaws dropped when such content was broadcast. We seem to live in an era when people jaws drop if you question what is being broadcast today.

There are times I would like to pick up and move to some community where "being a centrist" is still the acceptable mindset. But I wouldn't know where to find that place.

Glen, I think some of us have decided -- even if we agree with some of your points -- that all you want to do is run down conservative talk radio.

That's your prerogative.

It's our prerogative not to respond to your hand-wringing.

That is all.

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of conservative talk radio.

But is there not a difference between conservative talk radio and what comes out of my speakers when my radio is tuned to KFAQ's local programming?

The content is borderline wackjob, deep-end, tin-foil hat wearing crazy! I would brush it off the same way I do Coast to Coast AM, but I think people really believe what they're hearing/being told.

Call me crazy, but as controversial as Michael Delgornio was, I don't ever remember anything as nutty coming from his radio show. Or am I forgetting something?

I think some of what KFAQ is doing is catering to the darker elements of our society. By darker elements I mean racists and the lunatic fringe, i.e. Tim McVeigh types.

Not today, no.

That racist, lunatic fringe you refer to them catering to happens to be a large percentage of the population in this area... thus the reason we have two AM (3 if you count KCFO) & one FM programming to their listening interests.

And yes... that would include me, although obviously I wouldn't apply those labels to myself and I doubt most of Green Country would call themselves those things, either.

There is also a percentage of the population, in fact it may be the majority of the population and the audiences, which agree with SOME of what is being said but not ALL of it.

I find myself in that position quite often.

Many of them tune in to see just how crazy the host is going to get. Is this going to be the night Savage blows a vein and walks out of the studio mid-show? Is Levin going to end up screaming out a lung tonight? And on and on.

It may not be your kind of entertainment. Some people don't like professional wrestling. But there are audiences for both.

In their defense, their audiences may not be nearly as backwards as you seem to think they are.

P.S. - Congratulations on getting me to reply; I said I wasn't going to do this anymore.

While I consider myself out near the middle, I must confess I listen to Rush, Hannity, Coulter, Savage, et al for the same reason I watch Fock Snooze Channel:-- sometimes I simply cannot wait til the weekend for my S-N-L fix.

IMO - Until another generation of better educated come along, if it ever does, this is what we'll be stuck with.

I would say it differently. Today's generation(s) think of themselves as better educated.... and they are. Maybe what we need is another generation with better wisdom and common sense.... both of which appear to be pretty lacking based on today's talk radio.

IMO - 60 years ago, having a high school diploma meant that you had attained a certain degree of intellect.............the bar has been lowered over the years........many high school grads today, are dummies. Many with 4 year degrees today are no more intelligent than those who graduated the 8th grade back in the 40's. The statistics support that. Result: what you hear and see today being shoved down their throats via the media. Solution: improvement in quality of education including more math & science.

I agree wholeheartedly. The lunitic fringe is out there. I worked at a station that aired "The Alan Stang Report" many years ago. Alan Stang's rants were nothing more than that...lunatic...which appeals to a community of lunatics. I never heard so much vile and hate coming from this man to the point that I had to turn the volume down...it was making ME rant! His denial of the atrocities of the Holocaust and insinutating that Dr. King (a Baptist minister) was a Communist. Stang cannot call himself a Christian if he points his finger at a fellow Christian and call him a Communist. To be a communist is to deny the existance of God. Dr. King never did that. King agknoledged the existance of God when he said: "....that ALL of GOD'S children, white, black, protestant,Catholic,Jew and Gentile will be able to join hands and sing the old negrp spiritual: Free At Last,Free at Last, Thank God ALmighty we're free at last!"

In short:

"Judge not or you'll be judged!"

He is surely giving an account to his maker of the lies and exaggerated half-truths that came from his mouth.
