Sincere and glad to see that this was put out there.
Thanks Glenn for posting.
Did not know that an apology had been issued, but had heard that there had been a request for such an apology.
BTW...How did you happen to find this? I notice that you often seem to be the first to spot and post here radio relevant tid-bits that appear on more obscure sites .

I learned a while back how to do deep searches for stories on the net. That's helped a few talk show hosts present some time sensitive stories not heard elsewhere...Thanks for noticing...

Honestly, that had to be one of the most insincere apology statements that has ever been published. As an American of Baltic descent, I too, am acutely affected by genocide, this time by the Russians in Latvia.

But it really sounds as though that Clear Channel was about to be hit with litigation and management was there with a cocked .38 Magnum ready to pull the trigger if they did not "apologize." It was almost as the board op and Bill Handel were like little kids apologizing for breaking the cookie jar with "mom and dad" ready to inflict some kind of terrible punishment if they didn't go online and issue a statement.

You thought that Bill Handel would at least have shaved and worn a white shirt and blazer, instead looking like he had just had his mug shot taking after a police booking.

It really rings hollow.

Bill Handel got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame the day after the apology was made (the day it was published). Protests were rumored to be going to occur at the event. I'll leave it up to everyone else to speculate if that led to the timing of the "apology".

Actually Handel always looks like he either just got up or it is a mug shot, maybe both. But tying into another current apology, was their apology any more or less sincere than David Letterman's or going back Don Imus?

This was yet another case of people in an unscripted situation going a bit too far. Much like Imus but unlike Letterman who is both scripted and rehearsed. As a Jew whose Grandparents perished in the German death camps I am sure that Handel is very sensitive to all genocide and he has said as much many times.

Handel sure got some great May ratings so I really don't think Clear Channel cares.

Wow. That's Bill? Either his publicity photos are very old or they really airbrush them, and I don't mean the ones from when he was fat.

When you get to storm onto another live show on a sister station and throw out obscenities, and it's that other show that gets fired afterward, I think your bosses know they'll go to great lengths to keep you at the company.

You can see actual photos that I personally took at his star dedication at:

I did use Photoshop but only to make some corrections in the color and contrast due to the cloudy day. I can attest under oath that no airbrushing or other filtering was done.

I think that Jamie White and Company were going to be shown the door before the infamous storming into the studio by Handel. He did and I believe still does attend some kind of anger management sessions. I do hope that he does not defend his daughters that way always, they should not have been wandering in the hallways, because it will cause them serious problems later in life. Also I would hate to be the men that end up marrying them if they expect Daddy to defend them always no matter what.

I can not fault Jamie and her crew because I still have nightmares about the sessions where some local sponsors would bring their brats to the studio while Dad and /or Mom recorded their spots. It is not one of the fond memories of my time in broadcasting.

Handel has always been an edgy performer with cynically humorous statements on-air that artfully skirt the line between mere tactlessness and flat-out boorish rudeness. It's one of the things I find charming about him in this age of hyper-sensitivity and political correctness ;D He has always used his ethnic background as a cushion to deflect complaints. This time he was more insensitive than usual, and Lara played along. They needed to make an apology, and now that it's over I hope everyone can get on with their lives ::)
