So now with the negative feedback on how much in the way KFI's stick is in the way, how is this going to affect them getting on the air with full power?

I wouldn't be surprised if the FAA attempted to make them relocate the entire site. I'll bet the whole deal is tied up in court for at least a couple more years.

Where is the original site?

I believe that David E. reported within the past month that the new tower is supposed to go up at the new site within the next few months, so I guess you'll have to be surprised that it isn't being tied up in a courtroom or that the FAA hasn't made such a demand ...
______________

Just off the 5 freeway in La Mirada. They're still on the lower power back-up stick there now. They'll move temporarily to the KTLK 1150am transmitter site during construction of the new tower in La Mirada in the same place the old one was. So there is no "new" site. It'll be the same.

Re: KFI Tower Update

I was wondering why the signal is so weak out here in Phoenix, its usually a blowtorch at night.

A little weaker, but still very dependable driving around central Phoenix and downtown.

Hmmm. None of the KTNQ towers, I think, will take 50 kw non-D. KTLK is diplexed in the KTNQ towers. If they go there, at reduced power, the signal will be vastly worse than from La Mirada... the ground conductivity at Industry at the KTNQ site is much, much lower than that in the La Mirada area

Re: KFI Tower Update

I've been getting a lot of crossover from a Mexican station lately.

Gotta hook up the SW to the antennae and see how everything else is doing!

Yes, I checked and KFI will diplex into the old KIIS AM (KRKD) towers....but in Montecito Heights......the former main site for 1150 before their move to City of Industry. The CC folks were discussing 20kw during the tower project. Unfortunately the old 1150 towers are pretty short and the measured base impedance at 640 kilocycles is in the low teens. There were discussions of adding a temporary top hat using the guys to raise the base impedance and improve the efficiency/lower losses.

But the coverage will be very horrible.

Guess I should have mentioned that it would be the old 1150 site.
Yes the coverage will be awful, but it's not too safe for the men building the new tower if the back-up stick is fired up. And there are other concerns. Hopefully it won't take too long to get the new antenna up and running...

Ooo! I am surprised!!!

I wish I had time to read every post. Too bad I don't. Thanks, David.

Interesting. Up here in the SF bay area, I have little problem hearing them at night or even in the morning. I can usually hear most of the Bill Handel show in the morning, at least until around 8am.
______________
