KFI Sunday evening 7-10 (Breitbart)

W

WTFman

Guest
Breitbart was good. Technically he's not polished, of course, but what a network of Alternative Newspeople he might unleash on the country! What's the chance he'll do this regularly? Does he have adequate "breaking" material to do three hours a week? What do you think? Is this the beginning of something Big?

Breitbart was Drudge's ghost-writer for some time. May still be. Drudge links to him so he gets more hits. He continues to pitch the shrill, far-right palaver heard on the fringes of political reality. If you doubt it, check out his website. Just another right-wing mouthpiece. Demos will probably be 65+. But, hey, if you can make a buck or two on Sunday night, no matter how twisted the programming, go for it. It is Clear Channel, after all.

Look in your mirror and you will see the obverse of right wingers. Breitbart, and Drudge are more palatable than Limbaugh and Savage. Not as polished as Beck and Boortz. People on the left can not accept that Conservative talk is more listenable and gets higher ratings. Take away Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz and what is left on the left?

Pretty boring stuff eh!

Breitbart is an accomplished muckraker whose ACORN reporting has unbalanced and possibly destroyed the most effective grass roots conglomerate of the left extant over the last few years. Naturally he is held in contempt by left wingers who very likely don't even read his stuff but condemn it out of hand. I listen to both KFI and KPFK...if you know what I mean.
What I wonder is whether Breitbart has the interest or goods to fill that three hour slot and, if so, would he go national, like Drudge used to (I think), with those hours.

---Breitbart will be a force to reckon with. Will KFI manage to snag him for Sunday nights or not? Will Breitbart have the time to devote to a radio show or is he too swamped with BIG Journalism? Inquiring minds want to know.

Who the hell is even listening to talk radio in the evenings on weekends? I though that is when most stations dump their most useless programming.

Sunday evenings is not a place any money is made. Most significant ad buys are 5 AM to 7 PM, M-F. Evenings are low rate or bonus spots, and much of weekends is light on revenue. Saturday and Sunday night likely bill next to nothing, no matter what the share or what the program is.

If Glenn Beck is the current Big Thing, Breitbart is going to be the Next Big Thing. I expect 2010 to be a breakout year for him. He is going to launch more conservative sites in his ************* empire and hire several journalists/writers/bloggers to provide the content. If the content is of the same quality he has already provided regarding the ACORN story on BigGovernment.com, he will go viral. I expect him to either get a Cable News gig or expand the talk show as well. He'll be all over the place.

He already has significant free airtime on Fox News to self-promote and his approach is a take no prisoners one that the Right has desperately missed on tv. All of this comes at a time when the liberal policies of the current administration are tanking in public support and the public will be more receptive to the content he is providing in that type of environment. Once Breitbart gets done with them, the Left will wish for the good ole days when they just had Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck to kick around. Breitbart means business.

A guy named Bill Carroll sat in tonight (12-13-09) and after a prolonged rant on Tiger Woods I turned it off and listened to a Book-on-CD. Whenever I tuned in he was still ragging on Tiger until shortly before 10 when his subject was Copenhagen/GW stuff. I think I'll have to pass on this guy...though he may be the greatest host ever--I'll never know because tonight he was not onto things I'm interesting in (OK, GW can be interesting). Tiger is soooo used up. Leave the guy alone and give ME a break as well.

Maybe that's why John Batchelor's barter inventory so far is all PSAs.

I really miss Batchelor's show. He was, IMHO, the only reason to listen to radio on a Sunday night. Now I try to pick him up on the internet, but it certainly is not as convenient to 'tune in' as it was when he was on KFI.

Some have said that Sunday night is a wasteland not worth bothering with. I think it's a great opportunity awaiting The Man With A Vision. Drudge is huge on the net and had these three hours for at least a couple years. He is great at what he does with the Drudgereport but not very compelling on radio. There are lots of successful, fascinating, opinionated, colorful, gregarious people out there who would like to try their hand at a three hour spot Sunday night to spout off about what rings their chimes. This slot could be filled with a series of such individuals, alone or with friends, as a sort of Amateur Hour for celebrities with an ax to grind. It could be a NewsMaker program. Hollywood/LA County is full of the rich and famous whose entire raison d'être is to put on a show and blather on about their passions. Even a running series of radio disasters would be the best thing on the dial Sunday night.
Brietbart might do one a month. Out of work radio personalities might do occasional nights.
There must be a list of folks who'd sit up, pay attention, and decide to do it once some Big Shots like George Clooney or Quentin Tarantino could be induced to break the ice and start to win audience. Of course, someone would have to convince KFI the idea was worth fooling with. Maybe they've already got something/someone in mind.
Who would YOU like to hear do this hypothetical show?

So tonight a guy called John Mark Reynolds has the 7-10 slot. He poses as a conservative but said he'd get rid of education administration dead wood only to pay the highest paid teachers in the country even more money to teach here. In THIS economic environment? This guy makes his money in the schooling racket so I guess this should be expected. I don't need to hear anymore after that heresy. When will KFI find someone worthwhile to fill Drudge's old spot?

That would be why a lot of stations are going for infomercials so kudos to anyone who tries to put actual content on the air. It also would be a good time to experiment with new talent and concepts. Anything but a new colon cleanser or health food / herbal supplement commercial not so cleverly disguised as a talk show.
