Was just told my my son that kfi los angeles ca weekender chris merrill will be doing a two man midday news talk show from phoenix az. Anyone here know the gentleman? Will he stay on kfi weekends? Does he do his shows from his home like so many many?

From the Phoenix forum:

Merrill has already been filling in at KTAR since Sept. 2020, so it's possible he could continue at KFI weekends.
From looking at his X and Instagram accounts, he is indeed moving to Arizona.

Thanks to modern technology, anyone can do an audio or video presentation from anywhere for any reason on any station or platform

Yes, absolutely, it's technically possible. And it works for the weekender or occasional fill-in shift. But someone who's doing a Monday-Friday full-time shift, trying to talk issues and politics and lifestyles on a major market station like KFI, and who's literally phoning it in from another location hundreds (or thousands) of miles away, is eventually going to start sounding to audiences like a phony. You can start off sounding like you're local, but unless you truly are a local, or return to that city often enough to keep up with local current events, you can't read enough news articles to keep up the charade indefinitely.

But he isn't working for two clusters in the same market.

I don't think IHM cares one bit, as long as he isn't competing against KFI in Los Angeles. Mark Thompson worked for KGO (Audacy) in SFO while doing fill-ins on KFI in LA. Nobody cares.

I would never out anyone as to this, but you would be shocked to learn that yes you can and the proof has been in front of you for years.
