KFI's COMMERCIAL SCHEDULE

I was surprised at the content of KFI's advertiser roster since the end of the election season this past afternoon during the John and Ken Show.

I heard ads a lot of direct inquiry ads for colon blow, pet vitamins, that one usually hears on overnight shows and/or replays of national shows.

They must be really smarting with the lack of advertising from the political candidates.

Beats the local spots and PSAs they run here. And Geico seems to have ramped it up to fill the void here in Iowa. At least we don't get infomercials, yet!

It's not that surprising really. Although they have strong 6+ ratings, most of that is in older demos not sought after by the majority of today's advertisers. Add to that the mandate "not to air in controversial programming" that accompanies a good many national buy and you're left with local advertising, which has yet to recover from the recession, and a bunch of PI advertising which advertisers pretty much get for free.

On a related note, while watching what I presume to be one of CBS' marquee shows, CSI Miami, this past Sunday evening, EVERY break was filled with PSAs! I can't recall seeing one commercial! Did anyone else notice this? That can't possibly bode well for CBS. Bottom line, the economy still sucks.

Since that was on Sunday night, it may have only been fed to certain time zones (are you in the Pacific time zone?) due to runover from NFL delaying their prime time lineup in the east/central time zone feed.

But I've noticed more promos and PI spots on various shows since the election, especially during local breaks that previously were filled with political spots for what seemed like months.

I too have noticed that in the Central Time which is the East Coast feed, but we get it all an hour earlier. Local spots though seem the same. My favorite is the Plumber with a working show room where you can try before you buy. I have an image of a test drive that cracks me up, I have such a sick mind.

Sunday night's scheduled first-run CSI: Miami was pre-empted on the New York origination due to the extreme runover (one hour plus) of the NFL doubleheader. That made the 11/10 late news only about six minutes late instead of 1:06 late.

A repeat CSI: Miami episode was fed to the Mountain (at 9:06 MT) and Pacific (10 PT) time zones; the breaks were filled with PSAs/promos which some stations may have covered with local spots.

But, they billed enough to rank third (and very close to second) in 2009 in market billings. That billing also ranks it 7th nationally.

News talkers, despite older demos, have the advantage of greater inventory than music stations, so even if they have to meet 25-54 CPP targets, they can run enough spots to make up for the disadvantage.

That show is not doing well in 18-49, but CBS is way ahead overall with several new shows making the top 15.
