KFLX Change

I stopped listening to KFLX when "The Eagle" flew the coop. Grenax aquired 103.7 recently too. Lets see what happens next.

Changes are coming.  I found this buried on Ken Kennedy's page on KFLX's Web Site.

YES, WE ARE MOVING

Over the next couple of days, you will hear us talking about moving to 92.5 FM / 104.1 FM.  So here is what we are doing.

On Monday, July 12th 105.1 The Canyon will move to 92.5 FM which covers Chino Valley, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Willamson Valley, Paulden, Mayer, Dewey Humboldt, Iron Springs, etc.  We will also broadcast on 104.1 FM which covers Flagstaff, Doney Park, Kachina Village, Bellmont and Parks.

We hope you follow us on the journey down the dial.  Still the same great music, same hosts, same everything..just a new place to find us on your radio!

This leaves a few questions to be answered.

What happens to 105.1 (Flagstaff/Verde Valley) and 97.1(Prescott Translator)?

What did Tower Investments get out of the sale of 103.7 to Grenax?

I know from living in Presoctt that 97.1 wasn't a very strong signal.

Sounds like 92.5 is taking the call letters of KFLX and 105.1 will have the call letters of KBTK.

As "men" mentioned above...FM Talk? ???

Not so sure that sale was finalized now...Not with the above changes happening.

Flagstaff Changes: 'Canyon' Moves, Talk Debuts

GRENAX Adult Top 40 KFLX (105.1 THE CANYON)/FLAGSTAFF, AZ is preparing to move down the dial to a brand new 92.5 frequency, boistered by a translator in FLAGSTAFF at 104.1. Concurrently, GRENAX will launch a new Talk format on the 105.1 frequency with the calls KBTK. The flip and launch is slated for this MONDAY (7/12).
KFLX OM DAN BAISDEN tells ALL ACCESS, "We're moving to a new, better signal, and launching a new format on our old frequency ... more details on that soon!"

Looks like that answers one question.

From yesterday's news...

...Monday, July 12 to a pair of new stations. 92.5 in Chino Valley, which has already gained the KFLX calls, will become the primary station, while K280BU a silent translator in the process of moving from 103.9 to 104.1 will cover Flagstaff.

This shift will allow 105.1 and 97.1 to become “105.1 The Big Talker“. New KBTK calls were granted to 105.1 today.

92.5 KFLX is involved in a pending swap by Grenax for Towers Investment Trust’s silent 103.7 KZGL Flagstaff. It is unknown at this time whether Grenax will continue to operate The Canyon under an LMA.

KZGL is still a question mark. ???

It would appear that the 92.5 for 103.7 swap is dead at this point:

Thanks for the post Ed Walker.

Who's gonna wind up with KZGL now? ???

It's only a better signal for those in Yavapai County. One who thinks a translator is a "better signal" than 105.1 in Flagstaff has to be kidding.

Eric Stein said it above:

I totally agree. I wonder if anyone took into consideration the fact that there is a station at 104.3 KAJM down in Camp Verde, that can be heard up here in Flagstaff. Once you head south, on I-17, the stronger it gets, basically over powering the 104.1 translator from Flagstaff.

What's the latest with KZGL?

It's Silent and still up for sale by Tower Investments from what I see on this and other boards.

JEFFINAZ, are we talking about the same "Eagle"? I was out doing a little volunteer work in the middle of NOWHERE on the Dine' reservation a couple of days ago, and lo and behold, Eagle was coming in loud and clear! I hadn't listened in awhile so I was a bit surprised at the flip to classic rock. When did that happen?

It's funny, I live in Flag and own my own show which I produce here and air in another market. When I think about bringing my show to Flagstaff and read all the posts about who owns what and what's for sale to who and why and, and...

I just don't feel like dealing with all the politics of working for someone else anymore!

Winterwest this is what I know, since moving to Prescott, then Flagstaff starting back in 1999. KZGL was Active rock, at
95.9 (101.7 in Flagstaff), when I moved to Prescott, then was moved to a Online station and the KZGL calls went dormant. At the same time, KFLX was "The Eagle" was on 105.1 (97.1 in Prescott). KFLX flipped to a Hot AC format and continued using "The Eagle" until they changed to "The Canyon". Then during the summer of 2007, if I'm not mistaken, The new freqency of 103.7 came along and a new Eagle was born. "The Eagle 103.7fm" using the call letters of KZGL. At this time 103.7 is silent in Flagstaff, and the owner is looking for a buyer.

If you were hearing a Classic Hits format, on 103.7. that could have been KYVA out of Church Rock, NM, I've picked that up myself when I've been closer to NM.

If you know what frequency you were listening too, I might be able to figure it out. If you would post a message here, I'll see what I can do. ;D

103.7 should be coming back on soon. You can only request to be silent for so long before the FCC will take your license back.

As for the Grenax changes, the station in Chino Valley doesn't have very deep coverage into Prescott or Prescott Valley. The KBTK signal is decent in Flagstaff, but good luck selling the format up here.

You can be silent for no more than a year. You can sign on, broadcast for a week, then shut down again and reset the clock.
