KFMB 760 nighttime reception in OC

Does anyone know what station interferes horribly with KFMB 760 at night? Even after sunset when KFMB increases from 5kw to 50kw, reception in Orange County is very much impaired, some Spanish language station really comes in and almost steps on them. Makes them just about unlistenable. I've only noticed this in the last 12 months or so (except during the summer months).

David, any ideas? Oh BTW if you do have a guess please do us Geographically-Impaired amateurs a favor and tell us approximately how many miles/kilometers and in what direction from San Diego any station (probably from Mexico) you name. Thanks so much!

It's XENY in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.

Thank you.... So a border station around 450 miles from SD... looks like they have 5,000 watts day and 500 watts night. I assume they reduce around 7-8 pm or later these days. I'll have to check out reception around that time or after. Too bad Mexico can play by different rules.

1360 from Arizona KILLS KLSD-AM in Sandy Eggo in the morning and the evening.

Mexico plays by the rules that were agreed with the Federal Communications Commission. Well, at least that was the plan.

Chris, thanks for the info on where KLSD is getting interference. I agree..they really get jammed here in RB...hate that. Do you have a callsign for the Arizona station? I'd love to arrange to have a nail driven thru their feedline.

I think keeping KLSD at 5kw at night with the same day
pattern is good enough coverage, for the north county residents.
50kw will cause havoc with that phoenix station.

Not really. KLSD with 50kw, with their proposed pattern from the (present) KSDO-AM towers, will give 1360 a good foot print in Sandy Eggo. There is too much noise on the AM dial now, and with KPXQ-AM (Officially licensed to Glendale, Arizona), they would need the extra umph 50,000 watts can deliver. Some days, I'm at Melrose and 78 and hear the gospel better than Randi Rhodes (Which could spark another debate). The day pattern of KPXQ has a decent signal to Yuma and eastern California. The new proposed 50kw puts a lot of Air America and others over the water, but it will also solidify the Sandy Eggo area. Really a good move by the owners to use their already owned 1130 towers in Santee.

As for North County, 1360, 1130, and 600 have spotty signals in the 78 corridor. KOGO drops out north of the 78/15 interchange at night. (Which is why, at one time, Temecula was home of KOGO-FM 94.5)
______________

It's the old KRUX, with the stick at 75th Avenue and Camelback, on the west side of Phoenix (actually, in the city of Glendale).
______________

Hey Mr. SDradio guy thanks for verifing that for me, but not
to get off topic but do you think hifavor broadcasting could
trade back 1130 for 1360 makes sense right, 1130 covers north
county at night with 10kw.

KSDO doesn't make it above Encintas/Poway into North County after sunset. I know, I live in Oceanside. I can get KLSD-AM 1360 better than 1130 KSDO ... both of them have a lot of gar-bage underneath the signals.
______________

Agreed, KLSD should not change anything that will affect their current pattern. The last thing we need is more KLSD.

Actually with such renowned Air Talent as Janean Garofalo and Al Franken, what listeners need is MORE LSD

What is your point?

A Little DX from up North...I was in Sacramento last week and at night couldn't resist trying the SD signals. In order of strength, they were: KFMB, XEPRS, KOGO, and XETRA. Surprising XETRA was rather weak but I guess they were getting a little interference or perhaps they actually did cut power for some reason. In any event, I remember their fine nighttime signal in the Valley during a summer I spent on a farm up there as a kid.
