KFMB AM & FM sell for a shockingly low price!!!

I bet one of the mexican licensed stations they lease will move to 100.7.. perhaps magic??
 
The latest shoe to drop---The Times of San Diego is reporting that sources say Local Media will spin the AM. If it can't do that by the expected closing this Friday, the Times reports, 760 will carry on with its current slate of talk hosts until a deal can be done.

So---who might be in the market for a stand-alone AM (even one with 10kw day and 50kw night)---and what could 760 on its own sell for given no physical assets?

A few months ago, the rumor was that iHeartMedia wanted to move KLSD to 760. I realize the rumor mill is wrong about as often as it's right, though.

Interestingly, to cover the same area that the 10 kw does at daytime, you pretty much need much more power due having to overcome skywave interference.

Of course, not that many listeners use AM at night, so this may be an example of a Pyrrhic Victory.
 
Isn't KFMB just 5kw daytime? I know there's been talk on this board of them going to 10kw, but I don't see any construction permits for an increase.

Yes. You are correct.

I believe that there had been either a filing or a CP to reduce night power.
 
Brain cramp on my part. 5kw day/50kw night. Still throws a serious signal up here in Sacramento when the sun goes down---and the importance of a night signal is that half of the year, a piece of your morning and afternoon drive will be on night pattern.

Still, though. It ain't the Kuff-Mubb I knew, loved and (for more than a few years) wanted to work at.

Here is an update

The staffers at Variety Hits “100.7 San Diego” KFMB-FM and Talk 760 KFMB San Diego have gained an additional one week of employment.

With the sale to Local Media San Diego yet to be approved by the FCC, KFMB-FM morning hosts Chris Cantore and Meryl Klemow told listeners they will be remaining on the air at least until next week. The companies originally intended for the sale to close today.

The Times of San Diego adds that it is expected that Local Media San Diego will turn around and resell 760 upon closing.

It was a melancholy experience for me last Friday, listening to Roger Hedgecock's final "5 at 5" segment on KFMB. I realize you pretty much had to be conservative (like me) to be a fan. But regardless of politics, it was sad to hear the conclusion of a 34-year career in San Diego radio.

Will people be listening to terrestrial radio 34 years from now?
 
Don"t know the status of the AM Station, but Chris Cantore announced this morning (2/14) the current air staff and format on the FM side stay in place.....for at least one more week!

Brett Winterble leaves KFMB Radio for WBT Charlotte

Winterble joins News Talk 1110 & 99.3 WBT from KFMB in San Diego, where he hosted afternoon drive since 2015. His 20-year career in media encompasses hosting duties in television and radio, including afternoon drive on KFWB in Los Angeles, and producing for talk radio giants like Michael Reagan and Rush Limbaugh. Winterble succeeds WBT Hall of Fame legend John Hancock, who announced his retirement in October 2019.

WBT has supported the community of Charlotte for nearly 98 years, and Brett will continue this commitment to service as WBT approaches its centennial celebration in 2022.

The only logical reason for a one-week extension is that the sale (which involves both AM and FM) isn't ready to close today.

The FCC hasn't granted approval yet.

From a filing on 2/10:

And, two and a half weeks on, KFMB AM and FM have not yet changed hands and are still using the KFMB call letters.

John, does the FCC have to sign off on the transfer before Local can apply for the new calls?
