KFMB-AM SOUNDS RIDICULOUS

Doesn't Midwest Broadcasting care about how their station sounds?

For the past three days their overnight feed of Phil Hendrie is full of sputters, dead spots, packets which repeat, etc. which would indicate that they are taking the feed for the show off the Internet.

You have a first class signal, first class power, and obviously nobody in charge.... The GM and the PD should be fired, IMHO.... The station is not performing as it should.

After the station owners "sold out" to the conservative hosts (mostly from TRN and the hideous and painful Levine show) and killed local programming, it is all moot.

Outside of Rick Roberts, there is not a thing on the station worthy of 5,000 watts -- and the 50,000 at night.

I also noticed that when they do the news at the top of the hour sometimes they play commercials at the same time, and when they do traffic the traffic reporter is asleep at times. I like JM though cause when he does the news he puts his two cents in. ;D

Wow!!.. Your own website has them a ratings success this past winter book. Getting a little wishy washy there Carmichael.?

BTW, About 8-10 years ago, you were infatuated with this gal, let's see, how did you describe her... oh yeah, Lady Lynn Harper

HAH HAH HAH HAH.. How is "Lady Lynn Harper" doing these days?

I'm wondering if someone from the station is reading the posts here....all of a sudden the automation seems to be in better sync and the show feeds aren't spitting and sputtering...........

Black helicopters, anyone?

I heard that at one time that station didn't even have a real broadcast radio engineering guy, just some IT people and the TV engineering guys forced to try to keep it on the air. Without someone to babysit the automation mess it would be no wonder if they had issues as discribed.

Your talking about a station that hasn't had any direction. The fact that they are
even close to being competitive with KOGO demonstrates the low level of talk
formats in San Diego. What happened to the glory boy Dave Sniff?

KFMSuck hasn't had a real engineer since John Rigg left. John actually knows automation, studios, and transmitters. They don't want to pay an actual engineering staff. They just want it to sorta be on the air.

While Dave Sniff put on a great show overnights during the San Diego wildfire, and while he may be the "glory boy" or has the reputation as such, he is certainly no "hallelujah." KFMB-AM's web stream sounds just as a rough at night as the regular station....the automation dumps station ID's in the middle of spots, their online features hard cut at the end, etc. It sounds worse than a community colllege radio station.

You know there is no human engineer when you listen to KFMB's signal at night...I thought an audible buzz was because of local interference, but you can also hear it on their web stream.

What really is ironic is that Dave Sniff teaches radio programming at San Diego City College!!

If KFMSuck goes off the air for a day or two does anyone notice? It's like if the tree falls in the forrest if no one is there does it make a sound?

Just as Cliff Albert is Clear Channel's local lapdog, Dave Sniff is Midwest Broadcasting's lapdog. I recall when he was instrumental several years ago in breaking the hold AFTRA had on the station by getting rid of the station's regular news talent and repurposing the news actualities from sister station, channel 8. Rumor had it is that Midwest Broadcasting was trying to sell the stations to whoever would buy it and make the stations more attractive to a buyer by getting rid of as much of the Union on-air voices.

From what I understand Rick Roberts -- the station's only regular talk host -- is on a personal services contract and not under AFTRA's jurisdiction.

Unlike Dave Sniff, Cliff is an actual broadcaster, and is not a glorified board op. Cliff is a great news man, and sounds very good on the air hosting a talk show. Remember a station is only as good as the person programming it, Cliff lead KFMB's news department to success, then to KSDO, and of course the greatest of all KOGO! It genuinly bothers and hurts Cliff to let go of people, but "Teflon Dave" doesn't give a damn!

Wow. Where to begin. It wasn't Sniff who chose to break the union at KFMB, it was Ed Trimble. Roberts was always anti-union and since KFMB AM/FM/TV stopped recognizing AFTRA over 5 years ago, no one there is under their jurisdiction. As for Dave being a lap dog, nothing could be further from the truth. As much as I dislike the programming, the numbers KFMB-AM has sustained since 2002 have been pretty impressive. And if you think Sniff isn't bothered by having to let employees go, you are way off base. I should know. He was forced to let me go, and I still consider him one of my best friends.

Ask the accountants: It's a write-off!

And no, they DON'T care.

KFMB-AM makes money don't be ridiculous. There is no overhead except for Sniff's salary and the power bill on 50,000 watts. They have a great sales staff The AM and now the Fm both make money, but neither of them are the printing press that Channel 8 is. One commercial during the 6pm news cast can cover 760's expenses for a month. But I have to give credit to KFMB for having some of the most aggresive sales execs in SD. The cheapest car that any of them have is a Lexus!
