KFMB-TV (CBS) San Diego

A serious dustup seems to be in the making when KFMB this past Saturday night covered during their early evening newscast the opening of a locally owned chain of tire stores with a live shot, advertising where they have locations around San Diego County, and then immediately after the piece a full graphic billboard with the chain's name/logo and "News 8 brought to you by Evan's Tire Stores."

This happens after the station's much loved news director of over a decade was unceremoniously sacked by the station's (Midwest Broadcasting) owners. Apparently it is going to be written up on a new local news website tomorrow, "The Voice of San Diego."

It seems with the economic crisis that the lines between advertising and straight news are getting that much more blurred.

Another case of a television station having sold its soul for advertising dollars. I bet Uncle Walter's spinning in his grave right now.

I didn't catch it. Doesn't that go against all Broadcast ethics/code of conduct?

I have been told by a little bird that the article will run on Monday on voiceofsandiego.org

Should be interesting, as it is the first controversy since KFMB's news director, Fred Ambrosini, was "sent to the beach" several months ago.
