April 13th marks the 70th Anniversary of the legendary KFMB in San Diego. She was licensed on April 13th 1941, and was one of the last stations to get licensed before the war.
I was there for the 60th anniversary, and I had Jack Woods and Joe Bauer play a compilation retrospective of air checks compiled by the late great John Morgan.
I know that most stations dont give a rip about their history, but will KFMB do something about this milestone??? And the KFMB calls are the longest (without being dropped by the original AM) running calls in San Diego. KFMB is a family owned station, not a corporate conglomerate that destroys history.
Both the TV and radio sides need to do something for this and celebrate that they have been serving San Diego continuously for 70 years!
KFMB TV went on the air originally in 1949, and was the first in San Diego, just for those who were wondering. It was the first TV station to serve San Diego.
This was my question today? As I know that this was approaching. I ask this early so that they can do something.
Last June was KOGO's 85th anniversary, and CC did absolutely ZERO to celebrate the heritage of that great station!! I know that these companies look at these stations as being dollar bill printing presses, but for God Sake 2 hours every 5 years to say thank you to the people and the station that prints that money??? Would it really kill you to do this???
