KFMB's 70th Anniversary

"I'd rather work on a Vanguard I than work on some of the early radios!" LOL! I've heard stories about those darn Vangard units. That's the one that's a roll-around compact 1kw unit with a pl259, isn't it?

Yep, looked like a washing machine. Very high voltages in a very confined environment and 60's era insulating materials. A real widow maker.

There was a Vanguard II, later in the 60's. It was just a slightly larger coffin.

The anniversary should have been very exciting. It is unfortunate that KFMB and their owners are not making a bigger deal out of this :(

A 70th Anniversary SHOULD have been a great opportunity to revitalize and re-energize the station and its audience. By my count, there are 3 stations in San Diego that have the call letters "KFMB." Those would be TV, AM and FM. But for the AM station, the other two would not exist. Instead, it is a wasted opportunity, in my humble opinion.

:(

I couldnt have said it better Garrett, but lets wait and see they may surprise us and do something. Who knows maybe if we can get an inside man to poke and prod then something might happen

I would assume that the 100th anniversary of the oldest radio station will not go un-noticed

It didn't. KCBS did quite a bit in 2009. ;D

(They seem to have killed off the very nice centennial webpage they had at the time - it went away when they merged KCBS.com into the very generic CBSSanFrancisco.com...)
