KFMP-LP

Is no longer simulcasting 580 AM. It's now playing modern/hard rock music and branding themselves as "Hub City Rock" I must say this station sounds impressive....

Now if only my car stereo's tuner didn't stop at 87.9. I'd listen to this station over 94.5 any day!

I've heard songs ranging from Apocalyptica to Rammstein!

I >STILL< can't pick them up on any of my radios.

The "LP" in LPTV is their biggest problem, not whatever format du jour they are this week...

My car gets it just fine and it sounds alright. I know you explained the legality of it to me earlier. It all still seems strange. What is their TV frequency?

I guess they don't have much to lose with it anyway, so it should be a good station to experiment on.

The frequency is 87.75. It's analog Channel 6 on TV.

Yes. In one of my home stereos, I actually had to switch my tuner to European tuning to tune it right into 87.75. My car stereo, unfortunately does not have european tuning and the tuner only stops at 87.9.

I take it back about it playing ALL modern rock. I've heard a bit of classic rock at times. It's almost like they are experimenting with different playlists or something. Who knows...

too bad not many people know about this frequency or can't tune it in with their car radios.

It should be noted the FCC released a NPRM last week that proposes to require low-power TV stations to switch to digital operation. They propose a mandatory cutover date sometime in 2012. (they don't specify *when* in 2012, except that stations operating above channel 51 will be digital by the end of next year)

Whatever date they end up choosing, that's when these "channel 6 radio stations" will go away. They'll be required to go digital, at which point they can no longer be received on FM radios.
