Hey Guys:
Did KFMX 96.5 sign on in 1959 with a Classical Format or Beautiful Music?
Thanks

WOW!Big 121 said:The trend of "catchy" call letters caught on the '68 to '69 timeframe, depending on region. "First" local to adopt, was KFSD am, to KOGO , because of
rhyming possibilities (In 1962(?) . Next was KGB FM which went to KBKB, playing "Hit Parade '68" , but returned to KGB in late '71 with rock. KFMX took
KYXY around 1969.. and the format was mainstream vocals, instrumentals, and light rock.
Other call changes following this trend were KIXI, KEZY,KOLA(ex KFMW), KOST, KKDJ, etc.

By that I mean that again in the '60s and on AM, "136 KGB" and "93 KHJ" shared the same jingle, and it is EXACTLY the same one that is used to this day by KRTH. Now, "11-7, KCBQ, for you, for you" was original as far as I can tell (thank goodness). Anyone know of other shared jingles?

A couple of them come to mind;
When K-Best 95 started up (the oldies version) Their jingles (sung by the Johnny Mann singers)were sung just like K- Earth/93KHJ/136KGB.
KS-103's jingles were almost identical to KIIS-FM's (recorded by JAM )
KCBQ's shotgun jingle from the early seventies (the drums and call letters),were used by numerous Top-40 stations.
KFI had a version during the early 80's. (recorded by TM Century)

I wish had been in San Diego during the KS-103 era. With KS-103 and KIIS FM being sister stations, I can't understand why KIIS FM is still around while KS-103 is long gone... Q106 alway seemed like a cross between KIIS and Power 106 to me.
