KFMX NOMINATED FOR ACTIVE ROCK STATION OF THE YEAR.

For those of you actually in radio, KFMX has been nominated for "Active Rock Radio Station of the Year" in Radio and Records (Markets 101+). It's the first such time a radio station in Lubbock has been nominated. Chances are slim for a win though with Lubbock facing off with markets as big as El Paso.
 
It's cool that FMX is nominated. And your right... they probably won't get the award. FMX doesnt need some lame award to prove anything. Is it going to bring in MORE revenue? No. I bet you FMX didnt even know or care that THEY were nominated. However, I will admit that it is still cool that they were.
 
Well I think that's cool that FMX was nominated for station of the year. I always listen to FMX when I visit Lubbock. I wish that DFW had a real active rocker. The DFW market has really taken a hit in terms of quality and variety the last few years (IMO).
 
I truly have to agree with you. It sad that there is not an ACTIVE ROCK station there. Yeah, it might not be in the top 5 stations... if there was one there. However, does that mean that there is no room for one? No need for one. Someone might say... "Well, the people aren't asking for one". Well, who exactly are the PEOPLE suppose to ask? They are in bad need of a ROCK STATION. They have the edge...but that's alternative and then they have the bone... but thats your classic rock staiton. They need a FMX there in that market. I really think it would thrive in the DFW area. Growing up there... I had alot to pick when it came to rock stations. We had The Z00, The Eagle, Q102, Z ROCK, KZPS and The Edge. Now, they have an alternative and classic rock. I just dont get it.

I do know that The Eagle was sunk by horrible programming. There is no way around it. It started to sound like CRAP the last few years before it was taken out to a field and shot. The music seemed so RANDOM. It really sounded bad and it use to be a very cool station.

Hate to burst your bubble Reaper, but KBTE was Nominated for CHR-Rhy Station of the year back in I think 2004 and Rock 101.1 was nominated for Rock Station of the year in 2006.

Still congratulations to Wes and the entire team at KFMX. Should have been nominated long before this.

Actually, KBTE wasn't nominated for CHR-Rhy station of the year, it was nominated for station of the year for markets 101+.

I find it almost comical that ROCK 101 was nominated for Rock Station of the year in 2006. I would truly love to know why and how that ever happened. But... thats just my opinion.
 
Whether a station is nominated or deserves to be doesn't mean a whole lot when you get down to it. Winning on the other hand is a whole 'nuther thing. It takes alot more than just your buddies voting for you. FMX has enjoyed both regional and national attention during its run. ROCK 101 has not. IMHO ROCK 101 is boring and plays all the wrong songs over and over. It would be nice to see a Classic rock "that rocks" go heads up with them. FMX has done a pretty good job of re-inventing themselves over the years.

Actually, it's exactly the opposite. You're nominated by R&R. I have no idea what their selection criteria are. After that it turns into nothing but a popularity contest or whoever can stuff the ballot box the best.

If FMX wants to win, the staff should start contacting everyone they know with an R&R subscription and ask for their vote.
 
Getting nominated can be as simple as a request and sometimes the request comes from the station itself. Yes, to vote, you half to subscribe, report or both to R and R. It is all politics and B.S. as usual.
