KFNC 97.5 Dead Air

KFNC 97.5 with dead air this afternoon from at least 12:50 through now (almost 1:45 p.m.). Did the weather affect the station? The station appears to be broadcasting dead air, not knocked off the air by lightning, etc... and the RDS display info "KFNC975" still displays on my car radio...

Evidently Cumulus must be feeding 97.5 from the Beaumont studios....(it would make sense since the COL is still there)....all of their BPT stations were in the same boat this morning...they must have taken a lightning strike at the studios. The 1510 AM xmtr was off but all their other BMT stations were still RF on but no audio....Noticed 103.7 was still ok though...Heard it while I was driving through BMT this morning (nice to have a day off once in a while ;) All their BMT stations were back on later in the afternoon.....(I feel sorry for their engineers...today must have been a crazy day!...more so than usual!) Funny they left the carriers on though..guess dead air is better than static..

Anybody else notice that 1510, KBED, is on the air all night now and has been for at least the last 4 nights?

I thought, and wonder does the FCC still require FAIL SAFE for transmitters that are remote-controlled. That is/was if a transmitter lost connection with its studios,
the transmitter MUST shut itself off within 3 or so min if the connection was not restored within that time.

Last night, driving I10 between BPT and Houston, 1510 stayed on the air well after 8:30 which iirc is sundown at this time of the month......

Havent seen a fail safe wired in YEARS....I dont think its required under Part 73 anymore...with dial up allowed as the only control, I think the 3 hour requirement to fix any out of tolerance issues is the only thing they have to worry about.
LAst time I saw a Failsafe system, it still allowed 15 mins before it triggered....(and the engineer involved removed it the next day after it DID fire...right when the aux was on the air while the main had electrical work being done....and the aux shuit down! Ouch ;)

Close enough, it's 8:15 this month, 8:00 in August, on a daytimer with no post-sunset authority. Not that it matters to them, apparently. Were they airing the "regular" programming?

If they are programming 97.5 out of the Beaumont cluster, how long will it be before Cumulus shuts down their Houston offices?

They wont. KRBE, 103.7 and 97.5 are handled out of Houston.....Found out they are not STLing from Beaumont to 97.5 (though there could be a back up) Its a T1 RF from Houston to the tower.

Yep they were...same as 1450....At 8:45pm tonight (Tuesday), I talked to a friend who confirmed --1510 was blasting away with evidently full power and programming...I AM surprised WLAC has not complained yet....

Going back to the original topic, I have but one question...did the ratings spike during this dead air? ;D
