KFNC "Back Talk" Moving to Mornings 6/19

I was listening the other day to "Back Talk" on KFNC an heard at the tail end of the broadcast, starting 6.19.06 they will be in the mornings instead of the afternoon. Is history trying to repeat itself? As well, Mark Stevens is doing a show on KFNC on Saturdays from 1pm-3pm?I think the show name is Stevens an Cleregy? Please correct me if I'm wrong.I reside in Spring an KFNC comes in strong. KIOL comes in fringe till about 1130am or so.

First off, it's Stevens and Cleverly and they pay for the airtime. Previously they were on BizRadio and reaching nobody. I believe their reach is somewhat better on KFNC. If you talk to Mark Stevens he will tell you that Stevens & Pruitt is history and will remain that way. They still remain good friends. Stevens also swore he would never work for Pat Fant. Technically he doesn't since their show is paid programming, but the fact that he is now associated with a Pat Fant station says maybe there is a chance for a Stevens, Pruitt and Boner reunion program brewing somewhere. Mark Stevens is still one of the funniest people around and no doubt teaming up again with Jim Pruitt with Shannon (Boner) could mean ratings for KFNC. Hopefully they won't reunite on KRBE. That wouldn't be pretty for KRBE. Personally, I'd love to see it because I am a fan. It would be great to see them on KRBE with their show like their earlier days on KLOL, not the last few years when they became just crass and old. If Cumulus is going to destroy KRBE why not put S & P back together there for those of us that would love to hear them on a credible and audible signal.

Airwave999 is correct. A lot of the weekend programming you hear is time bought at the radio station. If you have a show, with sponsors to pay for the time, you can do it too.

Example: "The Antique Man" with Paul Wisnow on KNTH on Sunday afternoon. He has his sponsors who pay him for the time. He gets his cut and buys the time from the radio station, with the remainder of the money. Another cat is Ken Collins with his Houston Home Show, Saturday mornings on KIKK. He does the same thing.

I mention these two, because they've been doing it a long time, and were on the air in Houston long before any of us. Wishnow goes back to the late 1940s and the 1950s on Houston radio. My hats off to these senior gentlemen of the local airwaves. They were doing it, when it was just a boyhood radio fantasy for me.

I wonder if their target demo is changing as well?

"Blue Collar" folks such as yours truly work where radio (choice) is not allowed and usually have an evening drive between 1500 and 1700. It's not like we could hear it anyway over the din of work.
Those of us who have PCs at work are usually firewalled out of their internet stream.

You won't miss anything. The new line up is:

6a - 10a Pruett and the Bonehead
10a - 11a - some really exciting local magazine show
11a - 2p Dave Ramsey - this show did not work on KNTH with that religious crap so why will it work here?
2p - 6p - Phil Valentine - talks national politics from Nashville
6p - 9p - Boortz
9p - 12a - Clark Howard

How is it that the only one fired at KFNC is Mike Shiloh? Don't get me wrong, he was really bad but was he the worst? Did he make the worst decisions? 100% no. Why do Pat Fant, Laurie Kendrick, Belinda Babinac and Jim Carolla still have jobs? They certainly are just as bad as Shiloh, if not worse. I guess they had contracts and he did not.

Very sad, Cumulus pulls out their brilliant programming dart board and this is the best they could do? And I thought Dan Patrick and KSEV was a joke. This makes him look brilliant. Very sad when amateurs try and be programmers. "Those why can do, those who can't work at KIOL and KFNC."

Carola? Bad? The late Dickie Rosenfeld, former VP and General Manager for KILT didn't think that way. Neither did the late Gordon McLendon, the father of Top 40 radio. He was very "high" on Carola. Jim stayed at KILT for around 40 years. The ONLY reason he left was because CBS was downsizing locally. The decision was made to eliminate a full time news department. You don't stay that long in a major market, unless you are good!

I know Laurie Kendricks. She has my respect. She is very good on the air. She knows how to adapt to whatever format is presented to her. She follows orders. If you don't, you get replaced.

KNTH is NOT a religious station. Granted, it is owned by Salem Communications, which is a very large Christian broadcaster. KNTH is a news and talk station in Salem's newstalk divsion. It's a totally seperate operation. Many of the people in the newstalk division are from ABC, Westwood One and other services. The local general manager, Chuck Jewel has a strong news background. The reason that Dave Ramsey is leaving KNTH is the same reason why he will not be on other Salem stations as well. Salem and Ramsey have a contract dispute. The seperation happened at the top and not locally.

I failed to mention my old friend, Michael Shiloh. I've known Mike since he and I were at KRBE/KENR back in 1982. He and I have crossed paths many times through the years. He has always been professional in his approach concerning his broadcast work ethic. He will get a gig without difficulty.

Sure will miss it. My workday starts before 6a and ends during the 2-6.
So basically after 11a, it sounds like everything else on the air?

I agree about Carola....I grew up listening to him on 610AM doing the news...and his impressive voice and news delivery was outstanding...set him apart from others in the market but listening to him on 97.5, I must admit I have not been impressed....maybe its the attitude or the way they run the station..but I think the news portion of the station lacks a certain pizzazz......(KTRH as much as people bitch, still SOUNDS like a NEWS station when JP or Lana is on..)

As for Ramsey, that shocks me...his show has lots of Christian overtones interspersed..I cannot believe that a large religious broadcaster like Salem (which once got booed at a NRB convention..wasnt pretty) and Ramsey are in dispute! What is the dispute over??
