KFNC blows it with Jackson verdict

I listened to KFNC since I can hear them better than AM in the bldg and wanted to listen to the verdict live (I cant believe he is not guilty!!!! What a crock!)

What did I hear?? They switched to the sat live and viola!!! Dr LAURA!!!!
She was on for about a minute or more......and then evidently someone switched the sat rcvr and went to the right channel (GEE, they were carrying AP News prior to this ok!) and what do we hear?? News snippets of Jesse Jackson talking!
Then it goes off and Carrola comes back on....and starts to say "we have information that the first verdict is not guilty"!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIVE VERDICT!!!! YOU BLEW IT 97.5!!! I felt totally let down by you.....

I switched in time to hear on KTRH the live verdict as it was read...

Two let-downs in the same event....Michael Jackson found not guilty and KFNC screwing up like a market 132 station (actually, I flipped to KLVI outside and they evidently had it live on Hannity's program...so KFNC really blew it WORSE than a market 132 station; PITIFUL!!!)

As Jimbo says, I'm clear....

Either way, the verdict still sucks. A jury of his peers - I guess we know what they are.

KFNC 97.5 had a chance to be a real news station and show one of it's strong points, reception inside buildings where AM radio can't penetrate. Sounds like they couldn't get it together again. Is the equipment they purchased that new and complicated that no one knows how to use it or is it so terrible that it doesn't work? I have noticed so many technical errors and problems on both KFNC and KIOL that is hard to believe that the people that work there can't understand how to use the equipment.

KFNC sounds like they really don't have any intention of competing or being competitive. Nothing says that Cumulus has to own two stations, if they don't want to be bothered with 97.5, I'm sure that they will find a buyer for the station in no time flat. The signal is not good, but you can be sure that someone will want it as a Houston or Beaumont station.

Maybe KFNC doesn't want to be in the news field and just be another talk station, fine, drop the news and concentrate on talk, but at least do it well. Please don't tell me you've only been on the air a few weeks because that is no excuse. All the equipment should work properly and everyone working at the station should know how to use the equipment before you come on the air. It really shouldn't matter what market you are in, you don't use your first months on the air as a training school and you certainly don't do it in a major market.

How do you expect to be accepted as a real player?

It's because of these type of stories I said KFNC needed a national news presence. Sure KTRH & others will jump all over it, because they have the resources. I'm sure KFNC is depending on the AP wire and what they news they may be getting from some of their sister stations in other markets.

Sounded to me like a full blown tech problem. They had been going back and for with AP live reporter, but when it counted, things went bad.

I flipped it over to KFNC briefly and The Buzz, which flipped to ABC news was doing a much better job!
They were 10 seconds or more late with every piece of information they would unveil.
They described the woman releasing the doves long after ABC news had broken the interest story. ABC saw it and ran with it right when the verdict was read.
KFNC with poor equipment and poor planning was forced to succumb to a performance that was well, poor.

Poor equipment? Where did you get that idea? Have you been there? I've seen their equipment. It's not poor. However, even the best equipment in the world can fail. People can fail at operating it.

It's very easy to point the finger and second guess the situation. I wasn't there; I can only speculate. But then, that's all it would be, speculation!

I've read a lot of posts here and I get the feeling that many want this station to fail. Many seem to think that because they are different than the "norm' of news and talk stations, that they sound terrible. I've talked with my old buddy Mike Shiloh and discussed KFNC. What you are hearing is a work in progress. It's evolving before your ears.

The major problem for me is the signal! I faced this before with 97Talk-FM KKTL. The difference here though, is KFNC has a parent company with far more money to invest. KKTL was owned by a small group of investors who did not have the time to really build it. It ran out of money.

Technology or not, this was a chain of mistakes.
From a listener's standpoint, we've already had enough commentary from each agenda and angle. We just wanted the verdict. Clean and simple.

Using the live data displayed on the TV to the immediate left of the console would have saved the day. Since "rip and read" rules the day, why would it matter?

I had high hopes for the station. They have the talent on board. Hopefully, they will learn to use it.

May be best equipment in world, but both stations, constant failure. If user error why, that complex? All on KIOL bitch about the equipment and can't use it.

Both stations sound like from Malta, NY (population 450)with all due respcct citizens Malta, not Market 6.5. It's a shame.
