KFOG fires "Irish" Greg McQuaid

Yeah right, Live 105 is making ever so much money. I'm sure KFOG's billing would improve, splitting their audience.

Yes, but you're not taking into account that Live 105 sounds awful. A good alternative station could do extremely well in the Bay Area. Besides, have you listened to them lately? KFOG, as it currently sounds, is close enough. They already have bunch of alternative tracks in high rotation (M83 - Midnight City, Grouplove - Tongue Tied, Neon Trees - Everybody Talks) as well as all the ones that are AAA/alt shared (Gotye, Fun, Shins, etc.) It's not that they'd compete with Live 105, it's that they'd completely knock them out.

I don't think Dennis Constantine will bagg the AAA format on KFOG...The guy basicly invented the format, that's his baby!

I agree that AAA is DC's baby, but flipping formats would be up to Cumulus, not DC. If it went Alternative it'd still keep an AAA sensibility. I'm thinking along the lines of also-Cumulus owned former AAA now Alt. KENZ/Salt Lake City.

From kfog.com:

"We hope that you will enjoy the new KFOG Morning After featuring Tony, Greg and Melanie."

Anyone know where they are coming from? Is Greg, Greg Gory that was just hired for news a month or so ago? Let's hope Melanie isn't Melanie Morgan, formerly of KSFO.

You are kidding, right? Just what a rock station needs for a morning show - a shrill, bitter, 56 year old right-winger. That would bring in those younger listeners for sure!

Greg is indeed Greg Gory; there was a Melanie Walker who (along with Gory) was one of the 4 rotating news peeps who auditioned to be Peter Finch's replacement back in December. So it might be her (she said then she'd just moved back to the Bay Area from Minneapolis). Personally, I thought she was theweakest of the 4 who auditioned back then, but whatever.

Wasn't there a Tony who was part of Live 105's Morning team a few years back?

Greg Gory is the king of surviving in the morning. Didn't he last through 3 shows at Live 105 (Stern, Woody, No Name)?

And, yes, there was a Tony in the Woody, Tony and Ravey morning show on Live 105. I can't really see him being an anchor, though.

I was kidding about Melanie Morgan. That would be funny, though.

As much as I do not want it to be the case, I'm thinking you're right about Melanie. They seem to want to keep her around. They brought her in to sub for Greg a couple of weeks ago when he was out. She was just as annoying then as she was when she auditioned.

Folks:

I really enjoyed the Tony/Woody/Ravey show at Live 105. One they were dropped, I pretty much stopped listining to the station.

I was also dissapointed when the alt station "Channel" dissappeared.

I look forward to a more alt oriented format at KFOG (if this is really the case) and the return of Tony.

Mike

If it's Tony from the Woody Show, his twitter feed doesn't give any clues as to it happening (@tttstl) and he seems to be in St. Louis, which I think is where they started before going to Chicago then SF. Woody (@thewoodyshow), on the other hand is still lamenting losing his Live 105 gig 3 years after.

I'm guessing KFOG's Tony is someone else.

I'd imagine this is just a cost-savings measure. KFOG has the best ratings in the SF Cumulus stable with desirable demographics using their alt-lean. I wouldn't count on them to flip to anything, much less alternative.

This news item was published Monday at http://triplearadio.com/news/ :

KFOG (K-FOG 104.5/97.7) San Francisco-San Jose PD Dennis Constantine has let go morning co-hosts Webster and "Irish Greg" McQuaid. The pair exited after their show on Friday, May 11. Webster, who took over from longtime AM host Dave Morey four years ago, and "Irish Greg," a 14-year KFOG morning show veteran, will be replaced by the new "KFOG Morning Show with Tony, Greg and Melanie." Tony Longo (Dallas, Detroit, Orlando) and Greg Gory (Live 105/KFOG) are radio vets while Melanie Walker is former on-air co-Music Director at KCMP/The Current in Minneapolis. The new KFOG morning show is set to debut after Memorial Day. The Cumulus station is currently running an "A-Z" music promotion.
