Only one voice tracker? I don't buy it.

You'd be surprised how much it does matter. Why would Clear Channel care about a small town like Lufkin, Texas? If they have clusters in large markets that the company actually LIKES that have a million trackers, I would venture to say little old KFOX has them too. Get over yourself. The listeners might be stupid, but the rest of radio isn't.

Actually, during the week, KFOX only has ONE tracker.

They may only have one "tracker", but how much are they voice tracked? It's all in how you word it. That being said, it's small market CC radio. Voice tracking is the name of the game. I think the market needs a CHR and Rock station.

There's a Classic Rock station - KTBQ 107.7... as far as the market needing a CHR... I agree.

And what is wrong with VTing?I love it! I do it everyday, along with a live show. If I need it, it's there.

I like being a live jock. I would take it over tracking any day. I can see where it is a win-win situation in some ways, bringing better talent to small markets that couldn't otherwise afford it and giving an opportunity for jocks to make a little extra cash. That being said, live talent tends to sound better, in my worthless little opinion. And Matt, when I said rock station, I meant something that isn't straight out of the 1970s. Modern or alternative rock or just straight up rock. Nothing in the market is targeted at "younger" listeners. And by "younger" I mean those who aren't eligible for social security.

Yeah, I can see the point in that. Not sure if it would do well at all though, I'd think it wouldn't. Sure, it would have it's listeners, but not as many as one would hope... seems like a waste of money and time... I just don't see the market supporting it very much... like when 94.7 went hip-hop... as predicted, it flopped. However, a CHR... that's a different story. Then again, that would put the station I work at out of business. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I don't anything why that station flopped, but maybe it had more to do with the owners not marketing it well or managing to sell it well. The younger listeners are there. The companies just aren't willing to make it work.

Demographics. A top40 demo is white female, and would fit very well here. However, a hip-hop/urban station goes for an african-american demo, and it would be very difficult to keep that up in this market.

African American's make up about a quarter of the population. So yes, I see how that would be terribly difficult to reach out to them. And white people NEVER listen to urban music. That is just crazy talk.

Well said A&m. I know from having talked to many Angelina College and SFA students--WHITE students--They DESPERATELY try to pick up Kiss out of Tyler. Gosh they must really hate CHR to go through that much trouble. If it isn't KISS, it's KRBE in Houston when the signal is clear. I think the stereotypers are screwing over the listeners there.

Wait, wait, wait. I never said that white people don't listen to urban music. But primarily, they don't listen to Hot Jamz, they listen to CHR. Just as you said, KISS in Tyler... before it flopped to R&B, they were desperately trying to get the signal. Yes, KISS was CHR/M, not CHR/R. And THAT makes a HUGE difference. I believe a CHR/M would do GREAT here, as far as CHR/R or Urban.. I doubt it.

I still maintain that with a quarter of the population falling into the African American demo, a station could survive if done right. And a CHR/M station would survive with no problem. It marketed well, it would do great. No one wants to take a minute to get out of the box and do something different, though. It's a shame, too. The young people (teens, college students, young adults) could really use a station that cares about them and markets to THEM, not their parents.

I would not for one second say that KFOX 95.5 markets to parents.
