KFRC FLIP!

Lkeller said:
you have to feel bad for Jo Jo Kincaid who just moved to town a few months ago.

Sources tell me that Jo Jo Kincaid, Cammy Blackstone, and Sue Hall are out. Still on staff are Katie Mason, Dean Goss, and the weekenders.

I wonder if they might simulcast the Rick Dees Morning Show from L.A.????

A bummer about Jojo Kincaid. He had an awesome show.

From Allaccess:

Update:

Additionally, morning team "CAMMY & DEAN" and middayer SUE HALL are exiting the station. Night personality KATIE MASON, however, will remain part of the MOViN lineup.

I think it's the WORST mistake KFRC ever made!!!! We already have ENOUGH of these stations that play the same genre of music!!!!! I'm wandering what station WILL pick up the oldies format?

Hank (or whoever at KYLD is posting this) is just mad becuase this station is gonna put a further dent in the ratings of KYLD. They have a lot of different mouths taking a bite out of them.

And if you are going to get ANY kind of satellite radio service, Sirius is vastly superior to XM.

While I am not from the area I have listened online and to me it has a refreshing sound to it. I'd imagine that it will indeed hurt sister station Alice however. Might we see Alice lean alternative, and see Live 105 fill your other hole in the market...country? I just don't see CBS giving up on Free Fm for whatever insane reason.

Key word: "insane." UncleBozzle hit the nail squarely on head.

Yes, it is insane to stick with something that clearly doesn't work and start speading it to different markets. My guess is they will be too patient and give it years before they drop the idea. They will be in denial, always thinking that the format needs time, but it will never get better. It seems that somebody high up in CBS radio must personally like the FREE FM concept. If a music format did this poorly it would be gone already.

Yes Free-FM is so stupid, it's hard to talk about, so I won't. If the "sources" quoted above are correct, it is too bad about Kincaid, who would have sounded fine delivering the Movin format, even if he is an "older" jock - kind of like Lee Simms, who was just fine on Kiss-FM for about 3 years. Those sources quoted above say Goss has survived the cut, and Cammy hasn't. That sounds right to me.

I don't see Live 105 going anywhere. It has the heritage for being the alternative/modern rock radio station for San Francisco. They wouldn't blow it up to make Alice the alt rock station. If it was between the two, Alice would go. Alice, while billing well, doesn't bill as much as Live 105. Also, both Alice and Live 105 do well in their target demos. 12+ are the glam #s, not the important ones for any radio station. Alice does well with women and in general 25-54, and believe it or not, Live 105 is TOP 5 18-34 Persons in all dayparts as of this last trend. Even post-Stern morning drive. Not kidding, I was as stunned as you are. Both stations bill well too. That's all that really matters. Free-FM will be the next CBS station to change format, but I agree with a previous poster who said that CBS won't kill one Free station without killing them all. The whole idea was a move for Wall Street, not Main Street.

KFRC flipped this morning at 10am to Movin and they are streaming!

too bad. because fm reception problems this would be the market where oldies on am might be viable. thos kfrc had the heritage calls they did suck in the ratings i guess

Sorry to hear about Bill Lee being fired. In the early 80s at KFRC, he was brilliant. Definitely one of a kind. His run at KMEL in the 90s was not so successful.

Mark - RE: "JD." It's confusing, but JD was afternoon DJ at "Young Country," then KFRC in the late 90s. After Ron Parker left his partnership with Cammy, JD moved to mornings, so it was "JD and Cammy." I believe JD was short for Jeff Dean, but I'm not sure. The most recent Dean is Dean Goss, who most recently had the thankless job of being Cammy's co-host. It gets even more confusing, because the predecessor to Ron and Cammy on the KFRC morning show was "Goss and Garrett" - Dean Goss along with Erin Garrett. When Ron & Cammy flipped to mornings, CBS moved Goss and Garrett over to Young Country.

Goss and Garrett were doing the morning show at KYA-FM when it was flipped to Young Country KYCY by Infinity Broadcasting! Got the flip on tape!

Lkeller, thanks for the update, you have to read it twice, but now Im up to speed. It was kinda confusing. So, Jeff Dean was already gone @ KFRC. Again thanks ;)

KFRC-FM FLIP audio

If anyone has the audio of the format change on KFRC-FM, please post the audio here.

To make it even more confusing, for a brief period at Young Country, Goss did the show with a different 'Garrett'; Erin Garrett left San Francisco, and KFRC replaced her with another female DJ with the same last name (but not related to Erin).

Yeah, Original Erin was briefly married to tax attorney Steve Moskowitz. Presumably, he didn't want her getting up at zero dark thirty and going to work every day. Dean and the original Erin were paired down in SoCal, and moved up here as a team to KYA.

Someone asked for audio of the flip at KFRC. Nothing special. It segued from Don McLean, American Pie, into one of the regular Movin jingles...and into Gonna Make You Sweat by C & C Music Factory at 10:01 AM on Friday. If you have a media monitors subscription you can hear it at aircheck.net.
