OK Boss Jock 1947 When does it start? I don't see anyone writing on the boards about this new list and image voice yet! mmm?

Its been a year, patiently waiting, zero improvments so far, BossJock 1947, when you get back from your Labor day Holiday,, give us some good news! I would be 100% satisfied to hear John Mack Flanagan in Jay Coffees slot! And to have the VO guy in which everyone whos been around here 40 years, knows that Bobby Ocean is one of the best! This Radio Game is unbelievable,, you have no real Oldies Station, so you get XM and Sirius, you get to enjoy Bobby Ocean on XM for a couple years, then poof, hes gone, then one of my most dis liked voices in radio, Ron (without) Cammie on Sirius Totally 70s! Mornings on KFRC would "COME ALIVE" with Bobby Ocean in place of the Duke, Youve gotta agree, The Duke is boring, The Only Duke I like is "The Duke of Earl" from 1962, but oh no we couldnt play that on KFRC! Hey to all you suits at 106.9,, good golly, if theres ever a chance of getting these two guys back on, hire em, your current line up leads alot to be desired! Kenny in Concord, thats my story, and Im sticking to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it's a boring radio station, no doubt about it...just a classic hits juke box. But it's still a button on my car radio presets. It's not infrequent lately that I'm in the car, and want to hear some "classic hits," so I hit 106.9. Almost without fail, there is an A's game on. I really think sports is a mistake for a music station.

Yeah, I know - they're stuck with it for awhile. But it's got to be hard getting people into the habit of listening to your music format, when baseball takes up so much air time.

Of course, to me - listening to sports on the radio is like listening to paint drying...so perhaps I'm missing something.

Wait a minute here - what's your beef? ?????? BESIDES which, Ron keeping it "Totally 70's" is a "good" thing!! :):)

FYI, You can catch airchecks of Bobby Ocean from his KYNO days today on KJWL.com as they play airchecks from the birth of Boss Radio all day as a promotion for the relaunch of KYNO as news talk (snore). Ocean did an interview using his Fresno on-air name as well. A number of other ex-KFRC jocks who came through KYNO are being featured as well.

What I wouldn't give for a good oldies station. Bad enough to hear the best Boss Jocks of all time on anything but great oldies stations.

Doesn't anyone else find it interesting that BossJock 1947 seems to have vanished off the face of the earth?
The silence is quite deafining! What gives? Have we been scammed or did management change their minds? Now that wouldn't surprise me at all. I guess its just going to be the same boring KFRC 106.9

Hey, Hunkey!! :)

or anyone else...just curious, what do you guys think of Ron Parker keeping it "Totally 70's" on Sirius 7?? Me - to paraphrase one of Gladys Knight and the Pips' BIGGEST songs, it's "the best thing that's happened to Sirius 7"!! :):):) Ron has made that channel better than it ALREADY was (it's ALREADY a GREAT channel to listen to!!) - HIS energy, HIS intelligence, HIS passion for what he's doing, HIS sense of humor - it all comes through - BRAVO, RON - DUDE, YOU ROCK!! :):):)

I suspect Boss Jock 1947 was "having us on," as my British friends like to say. Either that, or he was engaging in wishful thinking.

I think it’s astonishing that CBS radio continues to do nothing about any of its underperforming Bay Area radio stations. KCBS-AM is their only success story. Quite a contrast to LA, where their KRTH, The Wave, KROQ, and and Jack-FM all have strong ratings.

People said things would change here when Dan Mason took over - but I personally haven't noticed anything other than minor play list tweaking on any of their music stations.

Before the poorly done "return" of KFRC, the last major changes at CBS here (before Mason took over, I think) were MOViN and Free-FM, and we all know how they turned out.

I realize that overall ratings aren't the only key to success - the big example being CC's Star 101.3, which I believe is still the top billing SF station despite so-so overall ratings. Still, you would think CBS would be unhappy with the status-quo in the Bay Area.

Does anyone here know which company did KFRC-FM's current jingles?

C.

KFRC's "current" jingles are all from the mid 1970s and were originally used on the Big 610. Some are from that "you" package that included some jingles that were close to a minute in length. Or maybe they just seemed that long. In that era of shotgun jingles, I used to find them really irritating :("You are the music we play, we do it for you on KFRC"). They used them on KHJ as well, but they sounded better there because "play" rhymed with "KHJ." They're not currently using those long ones, thankfully.

Some of other jingles they are playing preceded the "you" package on 610, and some may have come after. I think it's probably a mix from different years and multiple sources.

I don't know if they are still around or merged to form a new company, but I believe they used a company called JAMS Productions. They are/were based out of Texas.

There is a 3 or 4 minute promo of JAMS on You Tube.

The You package was cooked up by Jim Long at TM Productions. It was a ripoff of McDonald's, and their "you deserve a break today." You was big then, kind of like "My" is right now. My FM, My TV, etc, etc.

I believe they are the short jingle cuts from the PAMS/JAM "You" series. ("You are the reason we do what we do...")

It's funny. I'd like to hear the full jingles but under RKO I believe in the "you" concept. With CBS as owner, "you" rings hollow.

I've only heard small snippets of the new KFRC and what I heard were the shorter cuts from TM's "YOU" package. If you've heard any PAMS jingles on KFRC they would most likely be the Energy 1 package which was what they used post Drake. However if they've archived all of their jingles over the years they could be playing any of the Johnny Mann jingles which were used from 1966 through the end of Drakes tenure. I'm foggy on the dates but I think that they got the PAMS stuff in about 1974. They used another package after Energy 1 which I know little about, but one of the cuts sang "California's Great Entertainer". TM's "YOU" came about sometime in 1975 or early 1976 with PD Michael Spears continuing to use a few selected Johnny Mann cuts like the shotgun "610 K-F-R-C”. By 79 they were phasing jingles out a bit but did air "some" of the TM "Rhythm of the City" package, mainly the full length Rhythm song. I know that they used parts of TM's "Airworks" and "Alternative" packages by 1981 or so. Can't tell you more as I lost track of what they were using after that. They may have used JAM Creative Productions in the mid 80's but I've never seen any evidence of that. The "YOU" jingles are my favorite, but there are some great jingles from each package.

The top o' hour music is from the TM "You" package (Somewhere in my archive is the long image cut from that package, re-voiced by the Carpenters). The package is still available on the Jones/TM site, re-titled "Jack-FM."
The ID is heard on cuts 12, 12a & 12b:

Nope, you're absolutely right. It's TM, not PAMS.

I feel like the memory of RKO has just been desecrated. How dare they repackage "You" into Jack-FM! I mean, heck, it's all right there. -- KFRC resung! Oh, the humanity!

I do notice that the first part of the "You" jingles seem to use the original voices, but then the "We play what we want" is a bit muffled and sounds like it was tagged on later using other singers.

I'm overreacting, but RKO's KFRC was an important touchstone in my life, and it was such a class act, to hear those jingles used over again for any old station just brings tears, y'know?

Wow, I must admit that while the stereo separation was nice the re-sings for Jack FM didn't come up to the quality of the original singers. It's like watching your favorite former major league player end up in a side show. The way the voices are arranged and some of the notes they didn't hit made the Jack Jingles sound inferior of those created in the 1970's. By the way, I've listened to YOU jingles sung for many stations in the 70's (most of the RKO Top 40's and many more for other companies & stations) and TM did a beautiful job on pretty much every one I've heard from back then, but yeah, these are tough to take... I have a mono version of the KFRC and WFIL versions and would dearly love to have them in stereo, especially the KHJ package.
