I noticed that KFRC stopped playing pre-Beatles oldies. I used to hear quite a few of them during the Christopher Lance evening show.

This was tried several years ago, on a number of oldies stations, and failed. Stations that brought back the older songs, bounced back at the time.

Yeah, but those aren't pre-Beatles songs -- "Minds" is from 1969, "Ding-A-Ling" is from 1972. A "ban" would wipe out nearly all of Elvis' hit singles, including 17 pre-Beatle #1 singles, and would eliminate most of Chuck's, including "Roll Over Beethoven" and "Rock & Roll Music."

I realize that we're just making stuff up here, but a wholesale "ban" would be silly.

DJ, could I ask you to please not put an exact duplicate of your post in two different threads? Even though I know it's relevant to both, it's not really fair to the readers to click on the duplicated post and discover they've already read it, verbatim, a few minutes previous.

Thanks.

You can still play Elvis and Chuck,...."Suspicious Minds", and "My Ding-a-ling".

Many oldies stations have stopped playing pre-Beatles in recent years. The idea is to target 45-54 instead of 55+. I can understand the need to lower the demos. The danger is when oldies stations drop their oldest songs it moves them towards the middle, towards several other stations. They may have a noble goal, but could lose their identity in the process.

Regardless of the adjustment, they do seem to have expanded their playlist somewhat, which is a welcome change. At first I thought it was just during Lance's show - which is requests, after all. But I've noticed more variety in afternoon drive as well.

I hope that the "Pre-Beatles Ban" is selective, and not

There's always "No Particular Place To Go" and "Nadine" plus the 70s version of "Reelin' and Rockin'".
