KFRC IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a close friend who is buddies with Doug Harvil. He told me Doug has a new consultant with the initials DK. The plans are for KFRC to return with Big Personalities, Big Promotions, A oldies list of 1000. 40% 70's, 50% 80's and 10% 90's. It will be a collection of Pop hits, Freestyle, and Old School R&B.

Theme weekends including: Lost 45's, One Hit Wonders, Classic Dance weekend, etc.

They will also be broadcasting live at a night club on fri/sat nights!!! The jocks will have a free rein of the music too.

Some of the jocks that have been brought up are Bobby Ocean, Christopher Lance, Dean Goss, Ron Parker and a very popular SF legend will be doing Sunday night!!!!!

Dan Mason was pissed that KFRC gave it away to the Wolf. He wants KFRC back and bigger than ever. A new PD will be hired by June 1st and a Sept kick-off is expected.

Which frequency? 99.7, 97.3, 106.9, or some other one? It may be easy to speculate that it will be 99.7. But 106.9 is a stronger signal.

So are you saying they are pissed because they gave Jo Jo Kincaid awy to the Wolf? Or are they pissed because of the Wolf's strong personality and imaging?

Nice, But why isnt John Mack Flanagan mentioned? Geez , what is it with Ron Parker? Looking at all the posts about JMF, I would figure its a Slam Dunk to include him in the New Revised KFRC, he would make ratings! Look at his career in Radio, a much better connection with the listeners! Whats CBS gonna do with the Movin dancers? Eliminate their positions? Leave the 80s and 90s music out, Let Star 101 and KOIT have those years, 1000 song playlist would be a first! Why not see if Lee "Baby" Sims would come out of retirement? Radio can be aolt of fun with "The Right DJs"!!!!!!!!!!! Kenny in Concord

I hope this is true. If it is, I'll happily admit I was wrong, and eat my words with ketchup (that Classic Hits/Oldies is dead, and would not return to the Bay Area market). But many of this type of prediction have come through this board before...often accompanied by "I know somebody who knows___________(guy in charge), and s/he says...".

Bottom line: the cynic in me says I'll believe it when I hear it.

Quite to the contrary...let me try and answer your questions...

From what I understand, Dan Mason has ordered MOVIN' format off and KFRC back on except no 60s will be played and yes John Mack Flanigan was mentioned for a theme weekend slot.

A new updated version of the classic kfrc jingles and the dude that used to voice Power 106 in LA back in the 80's will be the sweeper voice.

Dan was pissed that KFRC then Movin couldn't capture the sound the Wolf is now doing. Dan is ready to open up the war chest!

From what you understand from who?

Power 106 was late 80s, early 90s. In the 80s, they were Magic 106.

MAGIC switched to POWER in early 1986. So it was POWER during 40% of the 80s.

This just has to be b.s. But wouldn't it be awesome if true? It would actually work! My dream lineup:

Mornings: Ron Parker
Middays: Bobby Ocean
Afternoon: Eric Chase
Nights: Hmmmm. Somebody who cooks....

Now, THAT would tear up Bagdad by the Bay.....

Voice overs should be assigned to Bobby Ocean or John Mack Flanagan!!!!!! Period! CBS for crying out loud, you wasted alot of Money on the Movin format, I knew it would fail miserbly, which it is and continues to do daily! Give the Bay Area the voices of JMF and Bobby Ocean, guys we can identify with! You guys wasted so much time with those Meaningless Movin spots, Lets get real and step up to the plate and Pay for the talent we deserve! I would put John Mack Flanagan up against any one at "The Wolf" combined with Osh you will have taken the lead! Hey KOIT , are you listening, KFRC returning will Lighten Your Listening Load"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Didnt even take a year to Have Movin Move on! Compare that Voice over guy for the Wolf to JMF or Bobby Ocean, theres no comparison!! Bobby and John have it The Wolf guy doesent have it! Kenny in Concord

Why not see if Lee "Baby" Sims would come out of retirement?

That`s funny...... Do you boy`s know how pretty it is today up here on the hill?

Why in God`s name would I want to drive into The City and read the latest memo?? Y`all keep me laughing.............. Keep it up............ Lee ..............

This is true!!! I heard it from a guy who knows this barber who was talking with his second cousin's neighbor, and he said they are definatley bringing back KFRC , to known as THE BIG 99.7...KFRC!!!! SO it has to true!!!! ;D

Captainshowbiz, My perfect line up would be....

5-10 weekdays Big "Tom Parker"

10- 3 weekdays Bobby Ocean

3-7 weekdays John Mack Flanagan

7-12 weekdays Christopher Lance

weekends, Lee Baby Sims, Celeste Perry, Paula Kelly, and Chris Edwards !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Kenny, Perhaps it would be a good idea not to count your chicks before they hatch! This could all be a smoke and mirrors trick in preparation for the new spanish language format on 99.7. David usually knows what he is talking about when it comes to format changes! TIC.

Thanks for checking in, Lee Baby. Since we're all fully involved in this fantasy now, I have 2 words for you - home studio.

Since we understand that it's the people as much as the music and the call letters that make KFRC....well, KFRC...and since this rumored revival will exclude 60s music, here's a list of the 610 men (and women) that I can remember from 1970-1986 and where they are now:

Charlie Van dyke: Doing voiceovers for the world from Phoenix.
Frank Terry: Retired.
Marc Elliott: Doing voiceovers (including the Disney movie trailers) in L.A.
Chuck Browning: Dead.
Dave Diamond: Teaching college in South Dakota.
Jim Carson: Middays at KRTH, Los Angeles (also owned by CBS).
Bob Foster: Retired for more than 30 years.
Steve Lundy: Dead.
Jack Friday: Weekends at a country station in Philadelphia.
Bobby Ocean: Doing voiceovers and XMs 70s channel from Marin.
Eric Chase: Doing afternoon drive at an oldies station in Houston under the name Paul Christy.
Mike Novak: VP/Programming: K-LOVE Christian Radio Network.
Ed O'Brien: Doing voiceovers in Denver.
Dr. Don Rose: Dead.
John Mack Flanagan: Working security in the Bay Area.
Kevin McCarthy: Self-employed in Dallas.
J.J. Johnson: Afternoons on Life-FM internet radio.
Chuck Buell: Doing voiceovers in San Diego.
Marvelous Mark McKay: Afternoons on an oldies station in Kansas City.
Shana: A free-lance entertainment consultant in L.A.
Don Sainte-Johnn: Afternoons on V101.1 in Sacramento.
Rick Shaw: Dead.
Big Tom Parker: Overnight talk host on KPAM, Portland.
Sally Adams: Marketing for a computer company.
Mucho Morales: On Westwood One's Oldies Channel.
Beverly Fox: National Sales Manager for WMAL, Washington, D.C.
Big Bob Anthony: Afternoons on Air 1 Christian Radio.
Robin Bailey: Unknown.
Bill Lee: XM Radio 80s Channel.
Candi Chamberlain: Working in financial services.
Shannon: Working in real estate in the Bay Area.
Harry Nelson: PD and afternoons at a country station in Portland, Maine.
Dave Sholin: Executive VP, MusicBiz.com, San Francisco.
Jackson Armstrong: In North Carolina. Currently not working in radio after being a format change victim twice.
Sue Hall: Traffic and news on The Wolf, San Francisco.
The Slim One: Doing traffic reports and news in Salt Lake City.

I'm sure I missed a few, especially from the 1984-1986 period, which was a revolving door as Mike Phillips took over from Gerry Cagle, as Walt Sabo launched the Game Zone and as Dave Sholin tried desperately to put the toothpaste back in the tube before it all ended in August of '86.

Still, that's 36 names up there. It's probably fair to assume that those who have retired or chosen other ways to make money wouldn't want to give that up for the lack of job security involved in being a DJ in new milennium radio, but 15 of them are still on the radio in one way or another:

Jim Carson
Jack Friday
Bobby Ocean
Eric Chase
Mike Novak
J.J. Johnson
Marvelous Mark McKay
Don Sainte-Johnn
Big Tom Parker
Mucho Morales
Big Bob Anthony
Bill Lee
Harry Nelson
Sue Hall
The Slim One

And there are two who should be:

John Mack Flanagan
Jackson Armstrong

So that's 17. Certainly enough live, still-working veteran KFRC talent to fill five airshifts and a couple of weekend/utility gigs (a better ratio than KHJ, where only nine of the 1965-1980 Boss Jocks are still in the biz).

The issue, as always, will be money. KFRC had and lost Bobby Ocean. He got them back to the Top 5...and then they told him they couldn't afford him. It's been straight downhill from there. If they want Osh back, it will probably cost them. And anyone from out of town will have to be paid enough to be able to live in San Francisco.

My dream team?

5-9 AM: Big Tom Parker or Jim Carson. Both deserve better gigs than the ones they have now.
9AM-1PM: John Mack Flanagan.
1PM-4PM: The Slim One.
4PM-7PM: Bobby Ocean.
7PM-11PM: Bill Lee.
11PM-5AM: Sue Hall or J.J. Johnson.

I'd want to approach the weekend/utility gig the way RKO used to...a fulltime/parttime position...comes with fulltime pay and benefits, but the jock knows the call can come at anytime and might be one shift or a two-week vacation fill-in. If I could get CBS to agree to that position, I'd call Jackson Armstrong. If he said no, Harry Nelson. After that, Jack Friday.

I got one more crazy question, after all the hype on KTRB here over the past several months how come no one mentions them anymore? could the thrill of "the first kiss" be over now for KTRB ?
