KFRC IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Radio dx: Tuna salad sandwiches at Patrick's.

Sure enough, I forgot two obvious ones:

Beau Weaver: Doing voiceovers in L.A.
Citizen Bill: At last report on air at KBAY, San Jose as Steve Taylor.

---Michael Hagerty

That's a good one, and C/B aka Steve Taylor is on weekends at KBAY and you can hear him doing many spots for them as well.

Parker, Ocean, Chase would be the best. Could you imagine having those 3 talents running through the day? If only .... in a perfect world, not ours of radio, huh Bobby Ocean we've heard forever and is a part of SF. I heard Eric Chase briefly at KRTH in L.A. and he sounded great, fresh and just like he always has and then one day he was gone. That was a loss to L.A. radio, which does need so much help.

I got one more crazy question, after all the hype on KTRB here over the past several months how come no one mentions them anymore? could the thrill of "the first kiss" be over now for KTRB ?

KTRB-860AM What a non thrilling walk in radioland! Their lineup is not so great! That first kiss was interesting but nothing like our first love KFRC!

This is true!!! I heard it from a guy who knows this barber who was talking with his second cousin's neighbor, and he said they are definatley bringing back KFRC , to known as THE BIG 99.7...KFRC!!!! SO it has to true!!!! ;D

If this KFRC rumor is true...HERE would be my dream lineup.

5:30-10am Hammerin' Hank(myself) and the KFRC Morning Show

10am-2pm Jona Denz-Hamilton

3-7pm "Big Daddy" Victor Zaragoza

7-midnight Dreena Gonzalez

Midnight-5:30am Bryan Nobles

That's my line-up. What's yours?

Tom Parker will probably stay put until something better(in Portland)comes along. He did several years in PM drive on AC KKCW before jumping to mornings on Oldies KKSN-FM, just before the latter blew up and moved to AM. Big Tom probably thought he would retire there!

Hi Folks:

I have always been perplexed as to why so many people liked KFRC. I thought it was a weak oldies outlet. The playlist was too small and the DJ's were decent at best.

Oldies stations from surrounding counties were always superior. They were:

KBAX-FM Merced County
KMGG-FM Somona County
KQPT-AM Sacramento County "Cruisin 1470"
KOMY-AM Monterey County

Naturally I understand that many people simply want some sort of an oldies station whether it be 50's/60's, 60's/70's, 70's etc.

I personbally would rather KYA return with a 50's-70's or a 60's & 70's format.

That really depends on when you heard KFRC. It was around as an oldies outlet for a long time...somebody else will remember exactly, but I'm guessing 12 years. I can't recall who the original owner was, but Infinity was the second, then Viacom/CBS after they sucked up Infinity. Toward the end...maybe 2003 and onward, the playlist was cut to K-Earth size, and even the better DJs sounded like they were phoning it in. It really was pretty pathetic. But in the mid and late 90s in particular, they had a larger playlist, and some good DJs...though granted, Cammy and (fill in name here) were always hard to listen to. Some of the good DJs- Ocean, of course, JD (without Cammy), Candi Chamberlin, Tom Benner, Jim Dyngler (early on), and I will think of others later.

The oldies KFRC began in winter 1990 (Feb or March) when (if memory serves) car salesman turned "broadcaster" took over X-100 and turned it into oldies. I think it was Bedford Broadcasting...a bunch of snake oil salespeople posing as broadcasters who thought they knew (at least they thought they did) what they were doing. It became obvious to the few X-100 employees they had "hired" that they were over their head. They had no experience in the industry, but thought they were hot sutff. They had the balls to come in to the X-100 farwell party two hours early and start changing the locks and told everyone that was not one their's to leave the building.

In the end, they got what they deserved.

Great maybe CBSFM will return to oldies too?

As a matter of fact yes CBS-FM might very well make a comeback.

The same friend of mine who is friends with Harvil and Dan Mason also mentioned there is a good chance cbs-fm will return. As he put it JACK-FM is billing only HALF of what CBS-FM did. Dan loves oldies and is thinking about returning CBS-FM to the air.

Consultant: JS, KA

Jocks mentioned:

Cousin Brucie/Dan Ingram on the weekend

Famous Amos, Bob Shannon, Jim Kerr, Big Ron O'Brian

Peter Bedford, East Bay Landlord, if memory serves. That was not a good time for radio...Ron Unkefer, late of the Good Guys bought KSFO/KYA, and treated the airstaff like a rack of cheap VCRs to be blown out. OTOH, there have always been rich, crazy guys who wanted to get into radio...with a few great exceptions, they were a mess to work for.

All this talk about KFRC coming back and not one comment from BossRadioDJ! Where is he? He's missing out on all the fun!

Ummm, well. Uhhhh...

Actually, my side conversations have been with Mike Preston and John Mack Flanagan regarding this for the past few days.

From what I understand -- oh, rats. The new baby is crying again. Let me go fix him a bottle, and I'll be right back to finish my thoughts. Don't go away. I'll just be a few minutes.

I was under the impression that KFRC 99.7 began in the early months of 1991 and it's first owner as a oldies station was Evergreen Broadcasting......but I could be wrong
