Today KFRC made a historic and exciting change.
As of 10 AM today, KFRC became MOViN 99.7. It is a new version of rhythmic pop radio targeting listeners who have matured from the teen vibe of local hip-hop stations and who are not being served by traditional Adult Contemporary radio stations. MOViN 99.7 plays a mix of current rhythmic music and proven hits from the 80's and 90's.
The MOViN format has successfully launched in other markets such as Seattle, Los Angeles and St. Louis . . . early indications show it appears to be a smashing success. For instance, in its first six weeks, MOViN in Seattle exploded in the ratings achieving a #1 rank among women 18-44. While we're not promising to be #1 in six weeks, we have two research projects telling us that there is great demand for the MOViN blend of music in the Bay Area!
As you listen to MOViN you'll hear a lot of songs you haven't heard in a while and there is a good reason for that . . . eighty (80) percent of MOViN's music isn't being heard on Bay Area radio often or at all! MOViN also plays newer hits so the station will always stay fresh and current.
There is also great excitement about MOViN's target audience. MOViN 99.7 will give us the opportunity to mirror the Bay Area's diverse population appealing to a wider group of listeners between the ages of 18 to 44. This will bring new listeners and opportunities to the CBS Radio cluster.
We did say goodbye to some very good and talented people today. Cammy Blackstone, Dean Goss, Sue Hall and Jo Jo Kincaid are no longer with the station. We wish them well and will do all we can to help them land in other opportunities. MOViN will launch without personalities for the first few months. A nationwide search has begun to find the right personalities that will fit the sound of MOViN 99.7. Mark Nieto and Katie Mason remain with the station, as we believe their on-air presentation is perfect for MOViN's new sound.
You can listen to MOViN 99.7 on-line as well! For now you can go to kfrc.com. A new URL with MOViN in the address will be coming shortly.
Huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this project! Mike Preston, Tim Jordan, Denise St. Louis, Dermott O'neill, Dre Iribarren, Monika Chinai, Catherine Weldon, Brad Hornsby, Greg Nemitz and Patrick Corr . . . you're the best! Thanks so much! The launch was flawless!
Give MOViN 99.7 a listen and hear how quickly it makes you FEEL GOOD!

And they are using that same lame "music that makes you feel good" imaging again! Will CBS ever learn or will they just have to be the first major group owner to go bankrupt? BS is right!

Alan Burns copied Steve Rivers, on this "Movin' format. Jammin Hits/Jammin Oldies, Magic, Groovin all have been done before. Actually listeners love it if marketed and programmed properly but most gm's get tired of it personally and drop it. Then it goes away for a few years until another passionless consultant tries it again with a new name. If you want to do this format correct it would be in your best interest to hire Don Kelly, Jerry Clifton or Steve Rivers and a host of others.

A few years back CBS brought in Steve Rivers but the usual idiots got in his way. Eventually CBS will screw this up too.

Of course, if it does go bust the blame will fall on those other than CBS programming brass. After all, they NEVER make a bad decision.

That's very true...just ask: Steve Rivers, Smokey Rivers, Steve Smith, Brian Thomas, Bob Shannon, Don Kelly, Etc

Maybe Movin' will have more staying power than Jammin' oldies. Movin' has some current/recurrent titles in the mix which might keep the format fresh.

It will take more than that. It takes imaging, commitment and street presence, things that many stations never really get. The Movin' format doesn't really represent anything new and innovative from the standpoint of music and permutations of the classic "current/recurrent/gold" mix that have been around forever. It's all about presentation and that's where CBS can and probably will drop the ball with Movin' whether it's in San Francisco or in other markets where they blow up formats on stations that should have been working.

There is the personal side to this, of course. Quoting from the original KFRC news release, "We did say goodbye to some very good and talented people today. Cammy Blackstone, Dean Goss, Sue Hall and Jo Jo Kincaid are no longer with the station. We wish them well and will do all we can to help them land in other opportunities." Could any of these people have been adapted to the new format? And why don't we check with them three months from now and see what CBS has done to get them relocated in comparable positions? Corporate's dedication in that respect is open for debate, as is their dedication to the Movin format if real progress isn't evident after time.

Bare bones. They just got rid of some very good talent. Sue Hall was doing 200+. I guarantee you they replace her with someone making 50K. Same with Goss/Blackstone and JJ.

Even the imaging is kinda weak. Jingles sopund like the old Jammin' jingles of 8 years ago. I think the one in LA might do well because Dees is on. We'll see.
