KFRC Music

My list goes in Sept and with a new image voice and finally the bay area will get the right oldies!

Great! (As long as it includes the Starland Vocal Band in your music list and an image voice that can properly affect "Kay-Eff-Are-She").

p.s. Why in the world isn't Big Tom Parker involved with the new KFRC? He's sitting around on his haunches up north
driving his wife nuts! Kind of a long commute but we think he's up to it.
He wouldn't be the only on-air person commuting from Portland.

Sorry I will NOT have "Afternoon Delight" on the playlist...but do count on the basics:

Supremes
Stones
Four Tops
Beatles
America
War
Temptations
CCR
Santana (yes Europa will be played)

And a few zingers never heard anymore:

Delfonics
Dramatics
Barry White
EWF
Rosie and the Originals
Malo

And all the many other artists that rarely get played:

Gary Lewis
Renee and Renee
Neil Diamond
Dave Clark 5

Just a small example of the 800-1000 songs that will hit the air next book.

Imaging? Wait until you hear them..it will frikkin' blow your mind!!!!!!

Theme weekends every weekend and two new jocks that will make Kenny in Concord very happy! :D

BossJock1947-

Like it! Don't forget:

Al Green, Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, The OJays, AWB, Classics Four and all the other great R&B leaning stuff. You already know this, but people in the Bay respond to R & B.

Will be listening for the long-needed changes.

I realize that no play list will satisfy everybody, and there will always be complaints. But that "R&B leaning stuff" has been so over-played in the Bay Area in the last 20 years, that I usually change the station when any one of those heavy rotation soul hits comes on. I haven't been able to stand "Let's Stay Together" (Al Green)for about a decade. I'm sure it's played at least once daily by KFRC, Kiss-FM, KBLX, KKSF, KOIT, and MOViN. I used to love that song, but after hearing it probably 2,000 times in my life, I've had enough.

About a month ago, Ben Fong-Torres's discussed this phenomenon. What it comes down to is: if you like a song, you tend not to notice that it's over played; but if you hate it, the repetition ticks you off even if you only hear it a couple of times a month.

But some music, like those top 50 or so R&B classics, have just reached the over-saturation point for me.

B F-T's article:

All this "If I Had A Playlist..." stuff is dumb. Just DO IT somewhere and invite people to listen.

As for me, I find the music lists really tiresome because I've heard this stuff all my life. I prefer NEW music or unmined old music. This is why I present live music shows every Tuesday night in San Francisco. Here's a link to the stuff I put on: http://www.musicboxseries.com

For those who insist on old music, why not just buy it and put it on you iPod, Zune, or Sansa?

AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COM'IN....AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. Let's hear songs by those artists that get very little air play, example dump "bring back that lov'in feeling and play "rock and roll heaven, folks would still know the less played songs and it would be refreshing to hear the songs less played. Don't forget the great groups such as the Spinners and the Stylistics and some of the groups less played tunes. What would a great station be without some one hit wonders put into the mix.

I agree with you radiodx, but it's not going to happen. Mass media is all about providing what is familiar and comfortable to people. It's why network TV gives us "new" cloned versions of the same police procedural dramas over and over (Law & Order, CSI), why "Classic" TV cable stations runs the same half-dozen sitcoms over and over for decades on end (Andy Griffith, I Dream of Jeannie, etc.) There is variety to be found, but it's not the norm.

When I listen online to old Top 40 radio air-checks these days, I always marvel at the "variety," because I'm hearing a lot of old songs that radio never plays anymore.. But if I actually think back to those days when I listened to Top 40 radio for a couple hours every day, it really could be mind-numbingly repetitive. The same 30 hits over-and-over with an Oldie thrown in every so often. What made Top 40 bearable over time was the addition of new hits - old songs being rotated out, and new songs coming in constantly.

At work a few years ago, I had a co-worker who played KBLX in her cubicle every day. I asked her if she realized that her station played the same couple dozen classic R&B songs every single day in heavy rotation. I think I said it after the 20th time that month I had heard Let's Stay Togetheror I Heard It Through the Grapevine come wafting out of her cube into my office from her tinny little s**t-box radio. She looked at me like I was being rude (OK - maybe I was, just a little). It had obviously never occurred to her, and she obviously didn't care. The station provided her with subliminal musical wallpaper, and all she wanted was the same old songs that were most familiar to, and she knew the words to, so she could sing along.

After that, I started streaming Morning Becomes Eclectic on my computer - the great alternative music show out of KCRW Santa Monica. That really pi**ed her off.

I think David Kaye is probably right. If you want musical variety, you'll have to download it onto your MP3 player.

Excellent point!! They seem to leave out some big hits back in the day by artists they have flogged to death over the years....

Example:
Games People Play/Cupid-Spinners
Island Girl-Elton John
Who Loves You-Four Seasons

I should'nt have to wait on a weekend to hear these songs and hope Casey is playing a countdown in a specific week that these hits would fall into..It seems their safe songs that they beat to death are'nt working for them according to the last ratings book..

Thats exactly why KOIT is number one....People have it on for the ambience to blend in with the other noise that happens in the workplace, hell even their so called jingles are low key to not be offensive, as are their overplayed songs......I DJ'd house parties a few times and when I would play "Tonight" by Kool and The Gang ppl would sit it out, but play "Celebration", and their hitting the dance floor in droves....Ppl are mindless sheep when it comes to oldies/classic hits these days..lol

KFRC needs to locate Bob Harlow,, and bring him back, This guy was taking KFRC to a KRLA fprmat about 3 years ago, When i heard the Flirtations on 99.7 .. wow, This guy knows music, Then they played Rene and Rene, and played whatever was requested, Christopher Lance, a much better choice for KFRC than Jay ( Decaf) Coffee! They need to get rid of Movin, and return to 99.7, KFRC has no listeners in a car on Hwy 4, its totally useless,, In Brentwood no 106.9! Antioch either! CBS,, if you ever read these posts. Trust me your VO guy on 106.9 is the worst vo Ive ever heard.. Mend your fences and appologize to Bobby Ocean, and get him back.. cut loose on the $, give him a lucritve contract,, then get John Mack Flanagan whatever hours he wants, and include a hefty salary,,and and find Harlow,, KFRC was just starting to sound great then all of a sudden, Poof,, its right back to its roots! Things change, Its time to bring the guys who put KFRC on the map back on! You wasted alot of money on MOVIN commercials,, put your money into JMF and Bobby Ocean for starters! Kenny in Concord

Mindless sheep, or rather people who put in a full day of work, have bills to pay, things to worry about, and just want to have fun with no muss or fuss? I'd never hire you as a DJ if your attitude was that your audience was mindless sheep. Get off your perch.

Hunkey Snarkey-

Been on here for months saying essentially the same thing, hoping that some rocket-scientist at CBS is reading this stuff...The station is a joke right now, but they could do exactly what you, me and many others have been saying and kick ass in the Bay....Up to now, CBS has shown that they are clue-less with their Bay Area outlets!

All we can do is hope they get it together!

If KFRC moves back to 99.7, then what will happen to 106.9? Keep Movin!

"If KFRC moves back to 99.7, then what will happen to 106.9? Keep Movin!"

There's no credible evidence or information that CBS is considering moving KFRC back to 99.7 - just wishful thinking from people who post here. Assuming 60s-70s "Classic Hits" is a dying format with only a few good years left, why move KFRC to the stronger frequency? MOViN's ratings are low, but they're better than KFRC's - and with a younger listener base, I'm sure. The frequency swap just doesn't make sense - even if they end up dumping MOViN for another format. In that case, my guess would be: new format on 99.7, with KFRC staying at 106.9.
