KFRC overnights

They go jockless and run the music in automation, with a board op monitoring

Are there any music stations in the market that still use a live jock for overnights? (or after 8P for that matter)

radio124,

What actions has KFRC taken that would lead you to beleive they care about overnights?

They have not cared about weekends until now and look how long they took just to add daytime personalties! Their irratating promos still run as if they do not have live jocks.

Back in the day as recently as summer of 2005 they still ran an overnite show that was voice tracked locally with one jock on during the weeknights and another on the weekend. Most shows were done the same day or a few days before airing. It kept the flow of the station and the personality it had then.

Yes KOIT stops its live jocks at 8:00 p.m. and it is very short-sighted for them and other stations. KOIT does not want to pay union scale for another full-time personality.

What these stations are saying is that they have no value (at night) and in the long run they will drive listeners to other media as radio does not control markets anymore.

My feeling has always been that there is more total time spent listening and more total ad dollars sold after 10:00 a.m. Just add up 10:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. and that is a huge amout of profit if you invest in it.

However the way the trends are going it seems like the manger/owners are thinking this:

"We should stop jocks at 10:00 a.m. or better yet should we have them at all? "................ I know I am begining to sound sarcastic except is does seem to be an owners/mamagers dream doesn't it?

Wait 'till the people meter gets here. It shows so far in the 2 markets that listening is far more balanced through the day than the diary has. Mornings aren't vastly more important than the other dayparts. Radio owners are going to have to rethink this. The ones that do it earlier may really make some gains on the competition.

>>>>>>Why should they. In today's world with the gadgets of today, who needs a jock just to tell you who the artist is that's been grilled a million times along with a time and temp check, and a live PSA that most people won't attend or care about for 5 or 6 hours.

>>>>>Adults just want to lay back and listen to their favorite hits on the weekends. They don't want to know it's "62 degrees at 3:21 on a Saturday afternoon....How Ya' Doin".

>>>>>Even the weekends , know one cares who's on....radio stations are you new stereos....that's for people who don't have IPODS, Internets, just with commercials.

>>>>>That's not the main reason....there audience hits the Prime Time of Television at 8PM. Wouldn't you wanna save money when 90% of your audience is gone to TV or even bed.

>>>>>> Your partially right...they have no value at night no longer. Even people driving in their cars at night.......there driven away already. When you have IPOD or XM, GPS, a cell phone, and a police scanner in your car....what do I need a person reading me titles of artist, time, temperature, the latest accident, or shooting for.. And screw the cell phone....who needs to make request when you have these things available.....Oh I forgot, I am missing commercials.

>>>>>The reality of Muzak is here....except with an interface. The days of the full- info station are eroding to nearly nothing. Which means the jock has less and less tools of being there. I have auotmated equipment at home, and I can run it like anything on the FM dial. And I say to myself, who needs myself to stand here watch what it does. It does.

This is nothing new. I find it hard to believe that they even have a board op overnight. Most stations completely automate, this is nothing new.

I dont blame them, they make all of their $$ before 8p.

No, there are board ops around. They're not "operating" the board, per se, but they're monitoring (ie: watching tv, surfing the net, etc.) to make sure spots play as scheduled and in case there are computer malfunctions. Not sure how it works at other stations, but production work (dubbing spots in) gets passed off to overnight board-ops, as well.

I have always head that 'arbitron' and 'neilsen' numbers do not factor in after 8pm and weekends. Many times a station will have 'commecial free' hours, because they know no one is listening and advertisers do not want to waste their money when no one is listening.

Another myth, I believe, is that the morning show sets the stage for the rest of the day. I have never believed that statement. If I did not hear the morning show, I would still switch around to other stations regardless of their morning show.

KFRC isn't just getting the band back together, it's the same'ol band with the same'ol song. I just give up on "The spirit of KFRC".....CBS if you want this to work listen to what your listeners are saying and not the ones you put on your promos, and fork out some $ to do it right!

live 105 still has live jocks every night.

It's only 12mid. to 6am that is not factored into the totals. In most markets it is difficult to sell spots in the 7pm to 12mid. day-part tho.

On overnights, or just until the Loveline feed starts?

we are live 24/7...

Glad to hear somebody around here still is. Speaking of 105, I think the station is sounding more focused than I have ever heard them. While I preferred the music when Demery was in charge, I think they're onto a more successful formula now.

As far as KFRC, KYCY and KMVQ are concerned, the board op just monitors as VM says with internet and TV marking off commercials. The production department dubs all spots. Board ops do not. I am sure at many other stations in the market, their board ops do production duties as their Production departments are somewhat lean.
