> > I was one of the people who piled on when the criticism of the new format started here, so I guess I'd be classified as a "KFRC hater," but I'm not particulary shocked that the ratings are up a little. As we boomers age, it's natural that the definition of "Oldies" is going to change, and content from later decades will be added, as it has in the past. This is nothing new - Oldies radio in the mid 70s played mostly 50s music. I listen less often to KFRC than before the change, but I still hit the 99.7 button sometimes, so I guess I'm kind of getting used to it. But really - couldn't they have done better than this? What's with the tiny playlist, again? Do I really have to hear the same 3 Jim Croce and Bread songs, not to mention the Little River Band (ugh!) over-and-over-and-over ad nauseum into infinity and beyond? No pun intended. I'm hardly a heavy-metal freak, but can't they add some mainstream hits that rock and roll? KFRC management made it obvious that they consider KOIT their main competitor. But, in my opinion, KOIT does "Lite Rock" better, and KFRC will never catch them - ever - in a million years. I understand the "Jack" (Max) format isn't working out in the Bay Area, but there's got to be some middle ground, like a playlist of 750 or so hit singles from the late 60s into the early 80s that reflects the Top 40 philosophy - if it was a bit hit - play it, regardless of whether it's hard rock, soft rock, country, etc. THAT format would keep me listening. And finally - I know DJs don't count for much these days (a pity), but just having the "B" team (old weekend & sub) jocks doing weekdays doesn't cut it. In my humble opinion, KFRC didn't have a good back bench to begin with, except for Joe Ike, Sam Van Zandt and Steve Jordan, and only Jordan is still around.
