KFRC Wed 12/26 AM Drive

...was that Tom Gomez and his wife doing AM Drive?

All I can tell you is THAT is how KFRC should sound!!! Way to go!!! Thoroughly enjoyable, lively and entertaining. I only caught 3 breaks, but each was precise, well planned & executed.

Hopefully management has taken note of how well this talent worked together. They have my vote for not just fill-in, but a hostile take-over would certainly be in order.

Since we're all waxing nostalgic, how about a "Dr. Don Rose impersonator contest", and the winner does the morning show for a year (station keeps an option for a 2nd year)?

If it works for Elvis...

In other words, "Bye bye, Dave and Celeste?"

No, Dave and Celeste are just on vacation. Thought I heard them say that Friday, when they were opening gifts.
It did sound good yesterday. KFRC isn't doing the best of or "worst of" in case of the woody show. or Fake lives like Sarah and No Name.

Tom is awesome, Mix did him wrong. Hopefully, he'll get some more airtime soon.

Actually, radiogurl, what I was wondering was if BnRinBayArea was saying that Mr. and Mrs. Tom should replace Dave and Celeste. I was also wondering to myself when I typed that post if I was clear about that and if anyone would misconstrue what I said.

"I was also wondering to myself when I typed that post if I was clear about that and if anyone would misconstrue what I said."

I knew what you meant, Rick. Maybe this is unfair because I don't get to listen to the KFRC morning show very often...and I hate to say it because I like both Duke and Celeste...but let's face it - it's hardly a top tier morning show.

I didn't get to hear the show either when Tom (and his wife, right?) filled in...I'm not familiar with them.

CBS probably doesn't want to spend the money - but what about 2 "teams" - Tom and Wife (?) in the morning, and Duke and Celeste in the afternoons?

They did this for a number of years in the early and mid 90s on 99.7, when Ron and Cammy were on in the afternoons, and (Dean) Goss & Garrett did the mornings.

Now Goss and Garrett that was a great show. They were in San Diego too and she tatooed her ass on the air.

Are they still around?

"Now Goss and Garrett that was a great show. They were in San Diego too and she tatooed her ass on the air. Are they still around?"

They haven't been a team in a number of years - Dean Goss was the last person to have the "honor" of teaming up with Cammy Blackstone on 99.7/KFRC before the CBS brains changed the format to MOViN. I'm not sure what happened to Erin Garrett. I have heard she's still in broadcasting, but I'm not sure where.

From what I've heard, Erin Garrett married a rich SF tax attorney...Don't know how that shook out. For a time, during their morning show on the ill-fated "Young Country" she was dating the traffic reporter...

Either way. LOL. I guess I can't reach the bar of smartness. Anyhow. I like Lkeller's idea of teams of two. I'm just curious why or how come radio shows can't think of real show names, besides combining the names of the hosts? Dave and Celeste, Cammy and Dean, Tom and Wife etc.

What's with the Tom and Wife stuff? Isn't his wife Paula Kelly, who has been on air in SF more than he ever has? (He was always bigger in SJ)

Tim Jordan the PD of KFRC has always liked the work Paula Kelly does so having them fill-in only makes sense. Yes since she is well known why not have her use her own name?

Newsperson

Glad to see the interest in this thread. For the record, yes, I found the quality of Tom & Wife (is McMillan rolling in his grave?) far more noticeable. No disrespect to Dave & Celeste, I think they have a lot of talent and much to offer. But these 2 fill-in folks were spot-on and their chemistry practically oozed out of my speakers!!

If management is open to that possibility, perhaps they'd take to heart a new evening guy too <wink>? Especially if this HYPOTHETICAL evening guy could play a bit more disco and pop on Fridays and take requests. Now, if I could just come up with a name for such a show.. hmmmm..

brace yourself. Tom and Paula are on kfrc today at 2 p.m. yes, management is listening.

Hey Guy and Gals: The company is looking for another afternoon team not a morning duo. Dave and Celeste are not going anywhere. Or is Dave tired of getting up so early already? Paula better be good after all the years she has been in broadcasting! She is one of my favorite KYA 1260, KSFO/KYA-FM personalities from back in the day! Too bad Scott Forrest & John Mac can't be added to the weekly schedule too. The station would only need a small pinch more of the sixties music to have one heck of a sound.

Dave and Celeste 5:30 to 9A
Sue Hall 9 to 2p
Tom and Wife 2 to 6p
John Mac 6 to 10p
Scott Forrest 10 to 1a
And how about that Penner guy for overnights
Jay Coffee could do weekends and get out and sell the station.
What a combination!
One more thing let this lineup of fabulous air talent be creative with some energy and passion for the music.
Bring back Joe Ike for weekends and fill-in work too!

"And how about that Penner guy for overnights?"

I'm guessing that you're referring to Tom Benner, who did late night Saturdays on 99.7/KFRC for a number of years...I think he called it "Benner's Basement." It was a clever show during a period (mid to late 90s) when KFRC was some real personality radio with the Oldies format. In particular, CBS let the late night jocks loose a bit to do some funny material - Candy Chamberlain was another - she would often do a number of different eccentric characters on her show. Unfortunately, I don't think CBS has any interest in doing that kind of radio these days.

For his part, Benner has been gainfully employed as "Officer Vic" with Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan on KSFO's morning show for a long time now. He's ostensibly the news and traffic reporter, but Lee and Melanie understand he's a clever guy, and give him a lot of extra time to interact.

We should probably stop referring to "Tom and Wife." I think I started that because I wasn't familiar with Tom Gomez, and the person posting before me gave no indication of who she was. Now that we know it's veteran DJ Paula Kelly, let's refer to them as "Tom and Paula,". "Paula and Tom" sounds good, too.

I remember the Best line-up KFRC ever had. I think it was back in 1974:

Dr. Dave Sholan 6 am to 9 am
Jay Coffee 9 am to noon
Celeste Perry Noon to 3 pm
Ben Fong Torres 3 pm to 6 pm
Steve Moore 6 pm to 10 pm
Beau Weaver 10 pm to 2 am
Big Ron O'brien 2am to 6 am

Does anyone else remember?

You're having some fun with us now, right Rick? First, if you're not kidding, you're mixing up your "Dukes" with your "Doctors." Dr. Don Rose started in mornings on KFRC about 1974, and ran up into the 80s, even after KFRC switched to the "Magic 61" standards format. Jay Coffey has never been on KFRC until 106.9 this year - same with Steve Moore. I may be forgetting, but I don't remember Celeste Perry from the Big 610 either - KYA yes, but not KFRC. Ben Fong-Torres worked at album-rock KSAN (Jive 95) in the early and mid 70s, but I don't think he ever did afternoon drive. Beau Weaver was on KFRC in 73-74 - doing mornings until Dr. Don came, then he switched to another time slot or two before moving on to LA.

"The Duke" Dave Sholin never did mornings until 106.9, except possibly as fill-in for Dr. Don on occasion. He was also PD for some of the 70s, and was in charge of the switch to Magic 61.

Bobby Ocean is a much better choice for a Morning Show,,,,Funny how hes been in radio for over 40 years and I hear nothing about him,,, Big Tom Parker middays in lieu of Sue,,and bye bye to Jay Coffee,,, John Mack Flanagan is 'Mr Afternnoon Drive"! These 3 contributed more to KFRC in the 70s than any other living DJ from KFRC...Gauranteed!! They always promote the Old gang is back,,,well this current gang isnt what i remember! As for "Big Tom Parker" his 70s midday show was much more enjoyable than todays middays! Weekends should be MUCHO MORALES,,,, and J.Parker Antrim,,, and Steve Garland!
