KFRO-AM Longview

I think the whole facility is on it's "last legs." It may require a heroic restoration. I'm pretty sure a new transmitter will be high on the list of things to do.
 
I hope so. The sound quality is terrible and the signal is weak. I doubt its running a full 1K.

BTW here's an April 1975 KFRO-AM aircheck I discovered years ago in a box of reel to reel tapes at a Longview Goodwill store. The good old days of overnight DJ's and 1 AM full Local newscasts!

And I wonder if their night directional array has deteriorated to the point that it is unusable. At sundown every day they go dead air but are still transmitting what seems to be from their daytime tower. They have been doing this for at least 2 years now.
 
I don't know about the directional array, but I looked at KFRO a couple of years ago and it was too far gone for me. The good news is the buyer is getting it at what is probably the least amount ever paid for a radio station that is actually on the air. Hopefully, there will be enough money and engineering talent to bring it back.
