KFWB Announces Post-Dr. Laura Lineup

From www.radio-info.com's News page: KFWB, Los Angeles reveals its post-Dr. Laura lineup

News/talk KFWB (980) goes with more advice, after Dr. Laura Schlessinger ends her run on terrestrial radio December 31 and is no longer available for the noon-4pm slot in L.A. The weekday change starts after the morning drive news block, with Bob McCormick of sister KNX (1070) creating a 9-11am show named "Money 101." Then comes Dave Ramsey, who will now be clearing his show live, moving up from 9am to noon to 11am to 2pm. Ramsey will be followed by life coach Les Brown, 2-4pm, showing listeners “how to shake off mediocrity and live up to their greatness”, says KFWB. Then there's the afternoon news block. Don Barrett’s LARadio.com got the news out Thursday about the 2011 plans for KFWB, which had built its daytime schedule around Dr. Laura, only to watch her announce her intention to leave terrestrial radio after the August N-word controversy. The Orange County Register has more about the 2011 KFWB schedule here:
http://www.ocregister.com/entertainment/brown-280614-ramsey-live.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I assume this lineup takes effect on Monday 1/3/2011 or shortly thereafter.

...well, after the shenanigans Schlessinger pulled against her at KFI, it would have been especially nice if KFWB had simply handed Schlessinger's old time slot over to Marikyn Kagan ;D ...

There is no truth to the rumor that KFWB management's strategy is bore their listeners to sleep so the they can record large amounts of TSL while the lone PPM device doesn't move away from the radio. I think.

Yeah, she was a jerk to Kagan, she schemed her way to middays at KFI by pulling some horrible crap with barbara Deangelus and then went after Kagan. She did not want anyone doing what she did at KFI and made it happen. Horrible woman, and she's a terrible therapist too.

It sounds like the powers that be are slowly turning KFWB into a financial orientated talk station, which, if this is the case, gives the station a niche in the way too cluttered talk format field within the market.

Now, will people listen to it?

Anybody remember a guy named Buzz Schwartz and his Investors Club of the Air? The station also had Moe Ansari, Jerry Klein, and others commenting on stock market/financial issues. MONY Radio, I think, from Santa Monica if I recall correctly. They threw in the towel around year 2000 or so and were found around 1600 AM on the dial.

Oh, that was KMNY 1600 Pomona, otherwise known as K-Money.

I am not too sure when they gave up, but around 1998-99 brokered music shows began airing on the station, including some underground music show by The Poorman.

Anybody remember the other former, short-lived financial station? That would be 1580 KBLA from around 1992.

What struck me as odd were billboards plastered all over Southern California, including the Ventura County and the Inland Empire. Much like KDAY before it, the stock market reports went well over the Pacific, but not well over Pomona.

KMNY 1600 ("Money Radio") was a great concept... if the target market was lower Manhatten. It was like CNBC radio when there were much less choices for that type of thing. I listened to it and thought it was pretty cool to have that format available in my car. Now of course, if you want that type of radio, you can do satellite or internet radio through your Ipod. Not so much of a big deal. The problem was a distinct lack of white shirt and tie financial gurus living in the Inland Empire at the time, errr, ever.

KMNY was also the first radio home of the Single A minor league Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, which probably generated its highest ratings with their scores of listeners.

It really amazes me who they'll give a show to. And they have such a high horse about it. I have brokered shows that are better than this nonsense.

Former Business News KMNY-AM (MONEY RADIO) owner and "INVESTORS CLUB OF THE AIR" host EDWARD "BUZ" SCHWARTZ, passed away on October 14, 2006 in Pasadena, California at age 80.

After the radio station, he had a website where he continued his shows for a while as podcasts.

One of my favorite guests on Buz's show was Martin Armstrong of Princeton Economics. The Confidence Cycle model predicted the start of the July 21, 1998 stock market correction to the very day. Even after Marty Armstrong was put in jail, Buz still supported him and started a legal defense fund for Mr. Armstrong. Martin Armstrong is scheduled to be released from prison in March 2011. His recent financial predictions, that he makes from within prison, can be found at http://armstrongeconomics.com .
