KFXV, 105.7 FM in Searcy

I hear that Sudbury gave up their LMA and walked away back to Newport. The station had dead air for a couple of days before the carrier was shut off. It's kind of a shame, the Fix was a decent station with a good signal, good music, decent presentation and also good audio quality (unlike KEAZ).

A million thanks would go to the person who had an aircheck of the Fix. Gosh it doesn't seem hot AC works in the state of AR at all. People here don't know good music.

Yeah, that's the problem--it's not the radio station, it's the listeners. Hmmmmm. Since you are a 'future' PD, maybe you should think about that.

Radio Geek question: If 105.7 goes dark permanently (doubtful, but possible), could KLAZ upgrade and move into Little Rock? Or are they still prohibited from doing so because of KFFB-FM 106.1 in Fairfield Bay?

If KLAZ upgrades, where would they put a tower? Has anyone heard if another station is planning on taking over 105.7 and keeping the transmitter where it is?

At one point a few years ago KLAZ had a CP to move their transmitter west of Malvern and give them a city grade signal into Little Rock but that was allowed to lapse. I don't see how they could get much farther north than the CP had allowed since that would get them pretty close to KFFB.

Wow!!!! So they moved River Country's studio back to Newport?? Is anyone else going to take over the signal/station? That is huge!

So does this mean the station is for sale or open to another LMA? Wonder how much each of these might cost?

Right. It would have been a full Class C, providing city grade coverage of both Hot Springs and the entire Little Rock metro. But this was before KFFB and KFXV were built. As I understand it, KLAZ's decision not to build out the CP alowed the allocations for both KFFB and KFXV.

Not too long ago, KLAZ held a CP for an upgrade to Class C0, but this required a directional null towards KFXV. Which of course is in the same direction as Little Rock, negating the whole reason for the upgrade. It wasn't built and I noticed the CP has now been deleted.

If KFXV goes dark, would it be possible for KLAZ to move far enough east to city grade Little Rock while staying far enough south to maintain the required distance from KFFB? That is the question.

No, they had the CP just a couple of years ago, long after KFFB was on the air from the current transmitter site at Rushing where it's over 1900 feet above sea level thus it's great coverage. Before 1990 or so KFFB was at something like 6kw on 106.3 down in Fairfield Bay itself.

Here in Conway, KLAZ and KFFB are about equal in signal strength. Which is to say they both have good strength. I have no problem hearing either of them on my Sony ICF-S10MK2 which I bought at Walgreens on sale for $8.99.

KFFB sells here and airs spots by Conway-based businesses. I'm guessing they would fight any upgrade proposal by KLAZ which moves the stick further north and/or increases height. If KLAZ were just a bit stronger, they would bleed over on the first-adjacents and make clear reception of KFFB in Conway difficult or impossible.

I don't feel as though 100.7 is filling that void very well either. I've talked to several fans of KFXV and none of them thought that 100.7 was a reasonable alternative, they all went to ALICE. That format hasn't really seemed to worked in the White County area over the years. I think KFXV had the best crack at it, and I think that is due to the creativety of Doug Holt. Crain had KKSY under the same format years ago and it was a lot better then 100.7 is today (IMO). Searcy just seems to have limited advertising potential for a station like that to operate, because stations with that format are limited to what they can advertise in an effective manner that's benificial to the clients. Pizza places, Arcades, video game stores e.t.c seem to be about the best advertising prospects. It seems that gearing a sales force toward Little Rock would be the best way to produce revenue to a format like that in Searcy. That's just my opinion, I'm not claiming to be right about it because I have no experience in that format.

Stupid 105.7 The Fix never streamed thus no one outside of the area coverage heard it including me. That Doug never even sent me a window sticker like he said he did.

Do any of the Sudbury stations stream? I'm sure their huge Country station does.
Streaming is a complicated and expensive process especially in the searcy market.

Speaking of streaming, has anyone seen KFLI's website? Cool1047.com, those guys got some sophisticated stuff. It's like KSHE's in St. Louis. I don't hear a lot of spot sets on their station, so I wonder how they are paying for all this. It's got some cool "No pun intended" stuff on it.

I tried to go to the website, but theres nothing that comes up. I typed in KFLI and nothing resembling a website came up? ARG, I'm curious as to how you were able to see the site? Has it already been taken down for maintenance?
