KFYE GOES ALL-PORNO

An A.P wire report says KFYE KINGSBURG has gone all suggestive songs ! Let's do it in the road-Beatles, Sexual healing-Marvin Gaye, Nasty-Janet Jackson etc as "all sex radio, all the time" with an advisory that people under 21 not listen.

I heard about this format change on the Wall Street Journal Report this morning on KGO AM 810! Interesting
programming decision, or just a stunt?

Jerry Clifton is brilliant. Nobody, I mean NOBODY does a format flip/launch/stunting better. His goal is always to have the entire market know about your station within the first 48 hours. In this case his station has received coverage on CNN, MSNBC, FRESNO BEE (front page), and according to another post, a Wall Street Journal report.

That's big time.

I know this sounds like an odd request, but can someone aircheck the station for me? I'd be curious to hear this..

Email me off the board, [email protected]

Ehhh, wasn't KFYE FM just a religious station prior to this switch? That's ballsy.

Yup it was.. and the new owner is running this stunt as All Porno just for that reason. He knows how to grab attention.

It's amazing, when I first came to SoCal, I envisioned a sexually-tinged format with suggestive songs and pornstars as air talent. I'm curious to see how they pulled it off.

ANyon has an aircheck on mp3, I am at [email protected].

Nah, Clifton is sleaze: the dumbest kid in my high school knew you could get attention telling titty jokes and even back in kindergarten the kid who ate dirt knew he could get attention by saying "poop."

Nonetheless, wether or not Mr. Clifton is a sleeze(and i don't know, ive never met him).. he's smart. he wanted people to talk about him and the station... and that's EXACTLY what he's getting. free publicity.

Ok, so sure, he knows how to get a lot of attention, at least for the short term. But what is the point? I suppose he will make a decent amount of money in advertising revenue at first, but will this format last? And do we applaud people whose only motivation for doing something is to make money?

while it's gotta be nice to do radio for the sheer art...
the plain boring truth is the bills have to be paid.
like it or not...and most of us really don't...it's gotta be a business first.

Clifton hasn't been around since Marconi for nothing.

There's a mistaken belief that programmers and managers who have been around a long time must be good at what they do and the presumption is that what they do well is programmming.

Well, it's usually politics they're best at. I have worked for so many radio geniuses who, when their record is carefully dissected, turn out to have had one or two real successes and after that a series of fly-by-night quick fixes that never sustained their initial burst of speed. The only time I ever met Clifton was back in 1972 when he was the PD of KSEA-FM (now KSON-FM San Diego). He started in radio about 40 years ago so he does get brownie points for lonegvity, but there's a lotta guys out there who've done that much time in radio with their head up their arse but they know how to recycle old ideas. Stunting before a format change is certainly not "a business first." But, stooping so low as to call it porn radio is and is doesn't matter how well Clifton did in the Sacramento ratings 20 years ago, his latest stunt sounds like the work of a dirty old man.

Yeah, but the dirty old man has gotten free publicity on all four networks, the AP, USA Today, and half the civilized world!

Reading the stories and the "complaints" from what seems to be a one-hour recorded loop....now with a number asking what format you want...in other words, those goobers in Fresno are being reeled in nice and easy, with the equally cluless news media lemmings helping things along.

Mr. Clifton, you are an eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-vil genius! I love it!!!

Don

Finally, someone who agrees with me. I thought I was alone in my crazy thought that Clifton was a genius.

I just got an email from someone at "k-love" and they said they werent making any changes, they were still CHRISTIAN......

I did a lookup on KFYE and got http://www.klove.com and emailed someone there....

I think this is all BS!! -- Has anyone actually heard this change?

Peace

"DUDE" .. KFYE was bought and the current new owner is the one doing this...

But i got an email today dude!!!!

I dunno........

EDIT:

Do you mean KFYE and K-LOVE are 2 different stations?

Where is the site for KFYE then?

What I beleive is happening.. is that the new owner has an LMA to begin operating the station and will operate under an LMA till the station officially transfers to the new owner.

And where's KFYE's website? I dont know the answer to that one. Where's it in the rules every station needs to have a website??

Ah,ok..........Maybe the person who emailed me didnt know this yet!!!

I hope they dont fire anyone.........

I highly doubt there wer many, if any staff at KFYE under K-LOVE. They were probably operating on a satelitte basis with a waiver for a local studio....
