KFYI 2 aka "dead air radio"

I swear, every time I try to listen to 1230 KFYI2, I am amazed at how badly it is run. Commercials playing over commercials, commercials playing over shows, and lots of dead air. Do they even have an engineer there?

Today, I had Mrs. Barry Komando's show on, they went to a commercial..and nothing but dead air for about 7 minutes. Later, I tuned back in, and it was about 15 minutes of dead air. I mean, it is one thing to have it happen on a lazy Sunday afternoon, but every time I try to listen, these things occur.

Waste of a signal.

Back when minding the automation on 1230 was my responsibility, we had a silence sensor that would turn on a flood lamp that was aimed directly at the jock's head in the Mix 101/KZON studio on 7th Street.

On the "What to do when the light goes on" instruction sheet posted in the studio, someone wrote in below the instruction to call me this directive:

"Apply sunscreen."

Hope that's SPF 100+, as KFYI~Too (aka KOY) regularly sets off that silence sensor. Third degree burns, likely.

But who the hell cares, anyway? 12~Thirty brings nothing to the coffers of I ♥ Media, other than a freebie bump for big advertisers. The Nurse and I suspect they make more money on leasing the tower out, than running the station. The land is best suited for a half-way house or carneceria. And if it was sold, the long term debt at the company formerly known as Clear Channel would still be in excess of $20 billion.

YIKES!
