KFYI And IBOC

Isn't IBOC supposed to be on air only
during daytime...or has it now also
been approved for nighttime use?

This Q since I noticed KFYI at 10:00pm
was :16 late, which is their usual
"new" delay during daytime--with approx.
:09 IBOC delay added to their existing
:07 language delay. (That's :16 late
with the CBS bong, as compared to KNX
which bonged straight up at 10:00:00.)

Or does the system keep the same delay
at night while switching off everything
else in the IBOC mode? I know KT'R goes
in and out of (their language) delay all
the time depending on programming, but
KFYI has always seemed to stay in delay
24/7, even before IBOC.

KFYI usually IDs later than KTAR during the day, especially during local shows like Barry, Dingleberry Twins, etc. I think this is more because 550 stuffs :10 traffic spots in and has no network to meet.

Since the HD Radio process has to delay the analog audio signal to synchronize (they use a GPS clock) to the already delayed digital audio. At night, this delay remains because equipment is already in place plus switching it off and on would result in a skip or glitch in the audio twice a day.

KNX on delay weekends

Don't trust the KNX time beacon. I've heard them on delay several hours after the computer show call-ins end at 5p weekends.
