KFYI gets Beck

I would be very happy if Asher and Marotta became a team on KDUS in the morning. I will miss Chuck and Vince, but Vince and Ash would be pretty good together, I suspect.

Powell and Dozer is an intriguing idea. I, for one, am SICK of talking points radio and having two intelligent people doing something entertaining will be welcome.

Aw man...KT'R missed it completely. Phoenix could have had a DANCE STATION weekdays
from noon-3 PM! Just think of the demos! And it'd be on FM! A mixshow at 1:00! ;)

If you didn't "get" this, see the current lengthy thread on the NYC radio board.

(Sarcasm mode now off.)

Don't know if Marotta wants to stay on board at KDUS past this month. The time of year when 1060 can't be heard until after 7:30 in the morning on the east side is around the corner.

All these changes around the dial means that I'll only listen to an hour of sports talk radio a week from here on out. Chuck & Vince was appointment radio; Mike & Mike is just what I listen to on my short drive to work, and I only seem to catch six minutes a day because of their frequent commercial breaks.

Getting back to Beck, did Jeffry O. miss a chance at grabbing him for afternoons on The Mighty 1260?

Speaking of the local morning sports talk void that will come once Chuck & Vince sign off KDUS, will John Holmberg fill it? He seems to be starting more of his shows with sports-related news, and comes across as intelligent in the topic, despite being a die-hard Steelers fan. Not that he wants to give up his massive KUPD audience, but he seems to be losing his shock value which has made him popular since Stern left free radio (I know our own KOHS would think otherwise, but that's just my opinion).

I know this may shock you, but I think you are right about Holmberg. Even Holmberg acknowledges that he won't be relevant to his audience forever. Sports radio would be a perfect fit.

So did KTAR drop Beck or did Premiere muscle him off to help a Clear Channel station (KFYI)? What's replacing him on KTAR? A live/local talker???

IMHO, CC wanted Beck on KFYI, where he's a much better fit than KTAR-FM. Beck's move to KFYI essentially makes them "Rush Radio". BTW, who's KFYI dropping to make room for Beck? :)

Beck is being muscled on. Savage is losing ground, but Talkers has him #3. Not on in SF, LA now Phx. How do they have him at #3? Most of the Beck is talking about Beck, same with Savage.

 THE only reason I listen to KFYI is because Michael Savage is on the station. Replacing him with Glen Beck is crazy. I hope one of the other stations, in Phoenix, will pick up Dr. Savage. Savage is the best on Radio.Period.

Savage? A grown man changing his name to sound tough, and then going on the air screaming for 3 hours.

Yeah, that doesn't get old ::)

Crappy radio for pissed off, frustrated white guys, nothing more.

and KFYI (will anybody younger than 60 bother with this station anymore?).

Um....KFYI's overnight staple "Coast to Coast AM" has been a hipster fave FOR YEARS. It's what people listen to at 2am or 3am when they're driving home from the bar. So, the notion that KFYI is still a haven for the geezers isn't exactly the most accurate. KTAR, not KFYI, is the home of the hearing-aid spots with P-Mac and Scarfo, and I really don't know that many people under the age of 60 who wear hearing aids (even with the tinittus). So, a little accuracy in station demo would be helpful.

And in Savage's case, crappy radio for pissed off, frustrated, FILTHY STINKING RICH white guys. I'm pretty sure most of his listening audience only owns one car, only one home, and no personal boat or jet plane. The guy must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Here is what Holmberg said about Dave Pratt being out of touch, and how he (Holmberg) would one day also be out of touch:

Q: Are you calling Dave Pratt old and out of touch?

A: I've called him that for 20 years. (Laughs.) I'll be old and out of touch, too. I don't see how you can stay in touch. Who's the last old and in-touch guy you knew? I'm already feeling the effects of that old and out-of-touch thing sometimes. This Bieber thing has got me baffled. I don't get it.

Justin Bieber is SO 2009. How out of touch.

At the risk of derailing the conversation in the direction of our erstwhile BBQ tease, I'll say this much...

At least Holmberg realizes that he's headed down the road towards being out of touch, and acknowledges that it is a struggle to stay in touch.

Hiring ever younger and prettier sidekicks does not make you more relevant to the younger generation, Dave.

According to Vince's twitter, he is joining Chuck (But not on the air). He will be the Arizonasports.com web editor.

Marotta has already left. Powell is still there, but is calling the show Chuck Powell Live for the remainder of his time at KDUS.

I didn't realize Father Coughlin had such a large family; and they all can be heard on one station. Well, this should help solidify KFYI's plummet to the bottom of the ratings pile. Pretty soon KAZG will have a higher share..... ;D
