KFYI Going Grey

I haven't listened to KFYI in a while but with all the talk on here about their ratings plunge I have listened a lot in the last week. It's so weird to listen because now it sounds like KTAR did when McMan, Preston, Bruce Kirk, Cesmat, and all those guys were on the air together. They sounded old. Now, KFYI sounds like the station with all the old men. Bruce Jacobs is the only guy who sounds young. JD makes the station sound old. He always sounds like he's giving a speech at a nursing home. I think I know why KFYI is no longer getting good ratings.

To my ears, which have been ravaged by listening with headphones on to rock music at high decibels, KFYI has lost its 'tude, swagger and street presence. They could get that back, but would have to bring in an aggressive PD with something to prove, like the ol' ChickBoss. Is Clear Channel going to spend the money on a good PD when they can get by with what they have? I think we all know the answer. KFYI reminds me now of KTAR when it stagnated under the TisaBoss.

You guys are amazing, I'll give you that. KFYI shows ONE down book and suddenly the station sounds old, they're finished, it's KTAR all over again, and so on.

It's good comedy, I will admit, but a bit frustrating to read especially when the next book where they go back up and everyone says "KFYI sure has revitalized itself, it looks like that new sweeper they introduced which plays twice a day made a huge impact on the numbers [or whatever drivel you'll invent]".

Then again, I guess this board really consists of about 10 people with at least 94 different handles/nicks.

I, too wonder how ONE Book/Ratings Period is somehow indicative of a "trend."

I guess that if in your mind you've been waiting, hoping for KFYI to fall, then you can see anything in a single set of numbers that you want to......

I didn't even know KFYI was down until Barry Young said that his station has been way down in the ratings this year.

Uh...I didn't know there were two Nurse Jeffs working this board! My right hand boy toy does not have posting priviledges, but he's allowed to drive the Gremlin from time to time. Dr Akbar

Grey Hair Radio on KFYI continues today....

Barry Young just did a half hour on how he doesn't understand why people are texting on their phones and wondering how it works.

Baloney, I just listened.

He knows how texting works (with his wife, he should)

He was talking about a crash in NY where a girl was texting and driving and killed 4 in her car when she crashed.

He doesn't' understand why people text and drive when they could just use the phone.

Get the story right next time.

What sound effect did he play after he made that point? ;)

Is that all you got?

You were wrong, you mischaracterized what happened on his show today.

I don't like sound drops either but that is not germane to the point.

Barry did not

"did a half hour on how he doesn't understand why people are texting on their phones and wondering how it works."

Listen with your head next time.

Maybe he should run a promo to help his listeners, like me, remember to put their hearing aids in.

I doubt it… …he seems fairly clueless about state of computing and internet… …a few years back, I called in to correct him on how incredibly misguided he was in asserting there was no such thing as secure communications (which the entire existence of e-commerce and other net features are predicated upon…) on the internet… …only to be kept on hold ~3 hours as I as scoffed at by screeners who told me that no way would Mr. Young ever be able to pronounce my name correctly (a name with four letters, mind you…)…

Hmmm.....learning to text....having knowledge about secure communications....sounds like a good comparison ;)

I don't know the guy but as you added it was a few years back so perhaps he learned how to text in that time...and hopefully you have better use of your time these days then the old days when you spent 3 hours on hold :)

Awful presumptuous of you… …to assume that I wasn't engaged in some sort of multitasking, or perhaps your remarks are based in ignorance…

Nah I thought of the multi-tasking angle because I had to sit on hold for an hour plus waiting for Sun Microsystems support..so the speakerphone would go on and my other work would continue....but again, 3 hours spent on hold whether multi-tasking or not just to let the host know you are smarter than them seems like a waste of time....oops, I'm being presumptious again....you were doing it as a service to the community at large ;)

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your weekend
