KFYI In The Tank

Is it just me or have KT'R and KFWhyEye changed places? 550 has never sounded more flat. When you throw all your marbles into the neocon bucket you take a big gamble. It paid off for years, but with Hayworthless and the GOP getting their butts handed to themselves, it sure seems KFWhyEye is left wondering who turned off the lights. Bruce Jacobs is reduced to talking to his producer all morning. Barry Young is completely irrelevant. Crummey has nothing left to talk about after the election. And it that wasn't bad enoough their station sounds like s*** now that their competitor is where hip hop used to live.

Good riddance KFWhyEye.

Good riddance KFWhyEye.

Before you pronounce KFWhyEye dead and gone, you might want to compare the ratings of ErrAmerica and KFWhyEye. Then ask yourself: Who is irrelevant and working without lights? (Hint: It's the broadcast network that filed bankruptcy, struggles to hit a 1 share and can't pay the light bills.)

Until KT'R gives up toaster talk and on-air rain positioning (is it raining where you are?), KFWhyEye will continue to be relevant and a powerhouse in the talk radio arena. Granted, the sound quality is better on FM, but the content is what will drive the ratings.

True, the neocons got their proverbial butts handed to them, but with the Dems in control, they'll have a lot of issues to discuss. Look at what Limbaugh did when Bill and the Dems were in control. We had two years of "America Under Siege" every day on the air. If anything, KFWhyEye will have a lot more to talk about with the Dems in control once more.

Sorry to rain on your party, but I think it was already raining where you are at!

I agree...

Politics is, what it is... and no one loves to blast the Dem's more than Rush and Sean. Ok, Bruce...and Barry too! People eat that crap up...and knowing politicians, a scandal is never too far behind.

Maybe that's what KTAR should have done all along, bash the hell out of the Republicans! ... or would that have alienated their demo? I know there are some "in the closet" Republicans that enjoy the-K-to tha T-to tha A-to tha R.

We say it over and over again... you can't win with news! Substance is key...
Until the "where Hip Hop used to live" station steps up and puts on people who have a pulse...
their numbers will stay salted.

However, I love the new t.v. promo for KTAR. Way better than 550 and the others.

A tip of the fez as Happy gets it.

Right now the advantage belongs to KFWhyEye 5~fifty. But The Men In Secret Underwear won't repeat the mistakes of the Emmis Brain Trust. With Lowry Mays cashing in his chips, you can bet the CCU Suits aint gonna put a dime into battling TMISU. The Nurse and I know TMISU know it, too!

Scott Conner? This Bozo left such an impression on KFWhyEye management that they decided never again to fill the 7-10pm slot with a fulltime talker. (the Nurse and I apologize to Bozo for the insult)

The ratings are out and KFWhyeEye-in-the-tank still beats Aunt Maude, Ded Simons and the rest of TMISU's boffo cast of characters. ;D

Perhaps TMISU need to have Captain Stupor do some live remotes from Sun City!! ;) Nothing like a live remote with toaster raffles to draw big crowds and earn loyal listeners!!

Is it raining where you are???

The new ratings prove the KTAR-FM experiment is a complete failure. It was a total waste of $80 million.

It's pouring.

We don't think so....but TMISU sure paid a lot for where Hip Hop used to live and the future Sports Parking Lot 6~twenty!

Nurse Jeff and I wanna know wassup w/R&R's ratings report? KKFR owned by TMISU and KT'R-FM owned by Riviera? Notice Star 97~five was up almost 50%??

It's not raining in Buckeye, but it sure is windy!

no show prep for young .....he wings it and comes out on top what a market

80 million?

That is like 7 or so Jim Pederson campaigns!

McBland is as boring as ever, but the sound quality sure is good.

Actually, KTAR FM is listed as a start up, without the prior hip hop numbers. The extrap for October is way over a 2 share, which, when combined with the AM number (they do not quality for single line reporting as they were not simulcast for 100% of the 84 day survey period) they beat KFYI in the last month.

The younger, under-55 demos on the FM are excellent.

In fact, this looks like as big a success as WTOP's move to FM in DC, especially in getting solid young 25-54 sales demos.

Of course, the overall #1 25-54 in October was KOMR.

Well gringo you may want to re read those numbers...ktar did not beat kfyi...and ive seen the break downs..of 12+, 25-54 and all day parts..ktar was never even close.

ktar was never even close. :-\
I've seen the numbers as well and I agree. Boring radio is just not gonna cut it. KTAR is boring. KFYI's main hosts grab your attention. Hey Russ. Hosts don't need to be right wing screamers...but they do need to have a personality. Your hosts have zero. The ratings bear it out. But then again, only about 10 percent of the Arizona population has ever heard of either station.

KTAR did not beat KFYI?

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

All I've seen is the 12+ numbers on R&R online. I don't know much about Arbitron (does anyone??) but adding the KTAR and KTAR-FM numbers should be a way to (roughly) guage the two combined, correct? If so, that leaves them .2 below FYI. I think the next book would give a more accurate idea of the ratings, and I think KTAR staffers will get a pleasant surprise!

TMISU have spent beau coup bucks on billboards, bus shelters and TV. Nurse Jeff and I bet they're paying more per point than Jim Pederson did! Bottomline: it will make a big difference and KT'R should have a very good Fall book in spite of the All Ho-Ho-Ho format of K~EZ.

(historical marker) The Middle Eastern Men of The Media advised the CCU suits to beat TMISU to FM this summer by moving MIX 96~nine to 104~seven. They didn't..Lowry Mays is cashing in..and come January when fewer listeners are cuming 6~twenty, they'll regret it.

Well, some Libertarian moron in TX ended up paying over $50 per vote! LOL

TAR should get better, but McBland and Dead Ted and Gaydos have to get the heave ho.

Same with Jay Lawrence, you could run him through a shredder and he would still not have an edge.

KTAR loses a sizeable chunk of audience due to "life attrition", they need to focus on entertaining the living, rather than programming for the near dead.

What you have in R&R is 12+ audience for a 12 week rolling average. KTAR FM did not appear in the summer book, yet it got numbers in the trend, which were all in Octoer... since it's a three month trend, and KTAR only applied to October, what you have is 0 in August, 0 in September and "X" in October. So take the October number and myultiply by three for the sinhgle month.

This means that the simulcast, in 12+, beat KFYI by 0.1 in October. In 25-54, it looks like a tie in October (really the last week of Sept to the third week of Oct).

In any case, KTAR appears to have moved more than half the listeners to FM already.

All the KTAR FM numbers are in October... so multiply by 3, and add to the extrap for the AM for October, and you have a win 12+ and a close tie 25-54, depending on rounding. A trend is 12 weeks, so we need to only look at October in this case. Having the actuals for August and September allows this to be done quite accurately.

"October" is really September 21 to October 18th, so the FM only had 4 days prior to the discreet "month" of october on the air... maning that you have to tripple the numbers to see what the single month of October was.

If you saw a figure in R&R, multiply by 3 and add to the extrapolated AM number to see what October alone got. The FM actually seems to have exceeded the AM in 25-54 in October (the survey month, not the trend) already. And it beat KFYI.
