KFYI is 20 Yrs Old...any Memories?

I think that Legend_City was me, I was on here, then everything crashed or was re-done...and I must have re-registered without the underscore.

Of course, I can't remember events that transpired 48 hours ago, so who knows.

How it all of a sudden popped up out of nowhere can only be attributed to another vast right wing conspiracy.

Or to a gentleman finding comfort in online memories of his father. This one is more Steve Godfrey material than Rush Limbaugh.

On with memories - yes, that something really horrible had happened to 55Phoenix KOY - o -that was several years later - still a horrible memory and part of KFYI history, compounded by KOY's exile to 1230 and the end of most locally generated programming on KOY.

Yes....playing music on AM will save the band. Put Kay Oh Why back on 5~Fifty and watch the ratings soar!

With all due respect to the most entertaining Dr Akkbar, to whom I usually bow before reading his posts, and I myself have owned many a Rambler proving that we must be kindred souls of sorts, and who wrote "Yes....playing music on AM will save the band. Put Kay Oh Why back on 5~Fifty and watch the ratings soar!" - we are talking memories here, not what will save AM radio.

As I remember it, KOY was a great radio station in those days - of course that is my opinion, maybe not yours. Moving it to exile on 1230, and one might note where it still out draws many FM music stations and as I recall all but KFYI on the AM dial, helped to hasten the demise of KOY. Something is on 910 now, a pretty good signal and owned by the same folks that bring us myohmy KOY - why not just swap them around give KOY a chance to fade into the sunset with a little power behind the golden tones? Nobody would miss the extra sports station.

Music on AM - don't we both listen to the Gold Mine on 1440? What's with that? My guess, quality of music is more important than crystal clear fidelity.

If the tunes be hoppin' - then the Rambler's a'rockin'

Regards,
Rickity

Yes, Rickityone...if the Gremlin is rockin', it's because our fezes are hoppin!

Actually the Nurse Czarina and I've given thought to moving Kay Oh Why to 9~Ten and selling or donating 12~Thirty. The Sports Parkinglot known as XTRA 9~Ten has gone absolutely nowhere since TMISU opened their Sports Parkinglot on 6~Twenty. But how much revenue does Kay Oh Why generate? And is there something more profitable for 9~Ten? While the Kay Oh Why calls are heritage, their value in 2009 is just slightly ahead of our '76 Gremlin Levi's Special!

Brian Donnely was great, Mikey Pedorr was terrible as was Victoria Jones.

Nowadays though, the station pretty much is unlistenable, Bruce is an ignorant jerk, Barry is a pompus ass, and Liddy and Hill redefine infantile every show. Joe Crummey is a good listen though.

Loved Duke Shirlaw's craziness, RIP.

AMEN!

Duke was usually crazier than his producers and ops intended the "middle of the damn night" to be.
It just worked out with the right callers and guests that it became a off of the wall classic.
If you liked "Blow out The phones" The "Middle of the Damn Night" was a perfect companion to the insanity
(in a good way) that resided there.

J.D. Doing sports... The funny part of that was J.D. took himself way too seriously but it make for some really interesting evenings.

Bryan - Well I worked with him 2 times... At KFYI and KTUC. A great guy, Topical but again way too serious. He knew how to draw a crowd as a producer though.

Charles, --- What Can I say? I learned how to get in the front door from him. Now we both are on the outside.
I think I ran his show maybe 4 times... Class Act.

Micky Pedorr - never met the person.. Still on hiatus I guess.

Sinclair Noe - The Doc rocked... 'nuff said.
