KTAR programming makes me want to horse laugh, much less a horse race.
A very competent, wise and young sound engineer, at a local Phoenix talk station, once told me "the station in the star."
In other words, when you have a station such as KTAR and KFYI, that have built up large audiences for having stuck it out for so long, you could practically put a liberal dolt like David Leibowitz on the air, and they will get ratings.
Why?
Because the station is the star.
Look at Liddy and Hill. Nice guys. More talented that Leibowitz. Conservative, but nothing too special. Well, ratings went up on KFYI and they thought that it was soley THEM.
No, it was the station (is the star) at work.
They thought they were good enough/ready enough for a national talk show because of their KFYI "success" (much like Liebowitz
really thinking he's VP and Creative Director material); however, they weren't ready for national syndication. The great success of KFYI made them think they were better than they actually were.
So, what's the moral of the story?
Talent, entertainment, understanding the issues, conservatism, believability, zazz, etc.
Now go listen to Charles "Chalmers Johnson" Goyette and get back to me with more tales of imbecility and pat ideology run amok!
