KFYI News?

Overheard early this morning on a KFYI newcast regarding today's visit to Phoenix by the President of the United States, "...We don't really expect anything newsworthy".

Other than another Post Office gaffe or blatant attempt at astroturfing, there's no possible news the President can make, as he's simply repeating the same production he's run through several other cities in recent days, only here in the Valley. Major props to KFYI for recognizing this (unlike, say, local TV stations cutting into an admittedly slow Sunday to show constant coverage every time he moved from one place to another as if simply getting on a plane or chopper qualified as "news").

Sorry, YKW. I'm a news junkie that wants to know what's going on. That's all. News Departments that filter the news are not my favorites.

I'm not trying to be snarky here, but EVERY news department filters the news in one way or another. Without getting into an interpretation of what the KFYI reporter said since I didn't hear it myself, it's true that a President can "be the news" (in this case by showing up someplace) or "make news." If, for example, the President comes to Phoenix to speak to the VFW, his mere presence is news. If, in his speech, he uses typical boilerplate about veterans' service and the great cause of freedom (not being dismissive of those subject, btw), then the speech has not made a lot of news. BUT, if the President uses the speech to announce an immediate pullout from Iraq , the immediate closure of Guantanamo Bay detention facilities or some other unexpected major policy decision, then he has "made news." There is a difference. As for the overall news filter: Compare KTAR news to KFYI to KKNT to KJZZ to Channel 5 to the East Valley Tribune, etc., etc. On an average news day (one without an overall major story such as a Pres. visit or 5 alarm fire or whatever), all of those media outlets will choose to cover some stories and ignore others. Filtration ain't just for Kinnetico.

You got a point there Doc. Can we pool our money and buy Crawford a tonsillectomy? That guy is worse than the recently silenced Mays (and I NEVER thought I'd be saying that!).

The toned down version of Seeeeeeeee Yahhhhhhhh in a Keeeeeeee Yahhhhhhh is voiced by Pat McBland. Nurse Jeff and I've only heard it run on KT'R so far. Dunno....that gimmick sure separates Crawford from all the other car peddlers and may not translate as well when delivered by Gerald.

Dunno about radio Doc but Patrick has been doing video ads for Crawford on KAZT the past couple of weeks. Thankfully, Michael isn't featured in them because that nails-screeching-across-the-blackboard voice of his makes you want to hit the remote as fast as you can dig it out from the couch cushions. Gerald sounds like Mel Torme in comparison.
