KFYI: The Valley's Tape Delayed Leader

The disgrace on vanburen just got worse. There's no way anyone could have seen it getting this bad this quickly.

A plane flys into a skyscraper in New York and KFYI reports the news an hour late and then runs tape-delayed coverage most of the afternoon. The KFYI news staff is now officially pissd. Fox offered special coverage but no one in the building approved taking it. The misstep is the third or four major screw up in a month and comes as KT'R airs ads slapping KFYI for missing Bush in AZ and the Foley scandal.

If you missed it. From 12-1pm KFYI had nothing on the story because the last hour of Rush they were airing was recorded earlier. When I flipped over to KT'R they were in wall2wall, no spots coverage from their network.

Then, at 1pm when KT'R broke in to say a Yankees pitcher was flying the plane, KFYI had seanhannity starting his show saying that a plane had just gone into a building. Hannity kept saying it would was gonna take reporters a while to get to the area. KT'R had just ended an hour filled with reporters at the site of the crash.

A disgrace. ???
 
So we guess what you're saying is KFWhyEye should replace Rush & Hannity with talker's like KT'R has mid-days. Hmmmmm...even Nurse Jeff knows if it's breaking news, KT'R owns it....if it's the opposite of toaster talk, KFWhyEye owns it. Somehow we think the market gets it - but maybe those who work for TMISU still don't!

No, just air El Rushbo and Hannity live* year-round: 9-3 summer/10-4 winter.

The new Dudeboss should be able to figure out how to "bookend" the in-house
talkmeisters around the time shift twice a year. 'Course he might get a lot of
flack from the Nearly Bald One--but doesn't that happen now anyway?

*: Live disclaimer: even though it says "live" there's probably a :07 language delay
on the network built into the feed, plus 55/FYI is always in their :07 language delay
and their :09 IBOC delay, so it's likely you're hearing El Rushbo say "drive-by media"

KFYI: tape delayed news, 1940s technology, mono... one wonders, do they still use wire recorders for network transcriptions?

Would that last listener to leave before the big "55 Phoenix Kayo-Why" Audio Vault switchover, please turn out the lights?

when a KFYI employee admits he and his male partner no longer consider their station even in the hunt for breaking news then blow the whistle and send both teams to their locker rooms. this battle is over. Nice Job KT'R.

Mike Anthony deserves all the credit. He is the man who restored KT'R to be the news leader. They finally got someone who knew how to do news. Nothing changed until they hired him.

As much as I am excited to see KT'R back on top I must say I'm sad to see KFYI completely give up as they have done. :'( Competition is always good. With only an occassional reporter working a shift and only news readers left on the staff it's only a matter of time until they downsize the news staff even more to pay for people like an evening talk show host.
 
You are right about everything except about one thing. This don't have a thing to do with Anthony. Good guy but not the one who did this. Give the credit where it's deserved. Perhaps KFYI will blame the democrats for having known about the plane crash in advance and sitting on it, just to make them look bad.

It could be worse, on Monday I heard KKNT do an entire taped news report from the previous week.

Really sad.
 
This turn around with news all started when the new pd Russ Hill was hired. Ask people at the station. He's got the best news credentials of any pd in at least 15 years. He changed that place almost as quickly as the pd before him slaughtered it.

He did it a lot faster than all the previous PD's dug that hole on Central deeper! The turning point came when KT'R set up tag team coverage at the Somos America march downtown this past Spring (Nurse Jeff still wonders why there were more Mexican flags there than the Red, White & Blue). KFWhyEye, which enjoyed the news image for several years because KT'R was so lame, realized TMISU had a clue. News is owned by KT'R, but talk is owned by KFWhyEye as long as Toaster Talk lives on the station where hip hop lived!

Just to set the record straight: I was the anchor at 12 noon on that day and we DID NOT have the news on an hour late - I did the story straight out of the gate in the 12 o'clock news. Please have your facts right...oh...wait...this is radio-info were talking about...if you believe everything you read here I'm supposed to be working somewhere else by now, I'm disgruntled and everyone in the newsroom is about to kill each other ::)

And when your live news coverage ended at, what, 12:05, what did KFYI KAFU go to?

One hour old news coverage from the talk network about the plane crash, as reported by Rush?

That's enough to make a news director want an oxycontin, himself.

Seriously, a station that is tape delaying a significant part of its day ought to have better policies on what to do when breaking news happens, making your talent look out of date.

No one said the KFYI newscasts at TOH were anything less than their polemic, rip and read (but timely) selves.

79 days & counting to Sports Parking Lot 6~twenty. Leave it to TMISU for decimating a perfectly good AM station in hopes of beating KFWhyeEye. They couldn't do it on AM, let's see what happens on FM. Nurse Jeff and I are convinced those 9am weekday Suns games from Germany sure will help.. ::)

Big deal, it was reported during the news. So what if Rush was an hour behind? His show is entertainment.

IMO this whole story was reported by the media as if they were a bunch of hyenas on caffeine.

(Besides, if you want old news, just listen to McBland, he still thinks its 1974 and he is popular) ;D
