KGB mornings - unplug the mike, please!

Since the demise of the Dane, Shabby and Chaingang show I have listened to KGB a whole lot more than I have in many years.

BUT....

What's the deal with the announcer person they have in morning drive???? Is that a board op they allow to talk? Every so often he turns on the mike and proceeds to sound like a boring uncle telling you a story in his slow monotone, with every phrase punctuated by "You know."

Now I wasn't a fan of the content of the Cave, Belly and Bandsaw show but I do think their presentation of their juvenile material was quite good. But this morning person now: well he sounds like Clear Channel had a contest to pick the worst announcer they could find so as to create the most possible contrast between the DSC and current morning programming. I heard the traffic guy refer to him as "BC," and I figure that he must be the program director because anyone else who sounded like that would have been called in for an aircheck session and asked, 'What the hell is this????"

It's good to hear rock around the clock, but they need to dock the schlock and just play the music: that morning talk is more of a turnoff than any commericals could be.

Other than that, love your show!

agree that more rock and roll is great tuning back without the potty talk looks like ratings are doing better we will get over the dsc and jeff and jer ;D

Interesting that the two replies have nothing to do with your post.

There's nothing worse than putting inexperienced announcers behind the mic, especially on an institution like KGB, but corporations trying to run stations on the cheap and this is what you get.

I remember an egregious error a DJ made on an important day in music history. He played a snippet of a phone conversation he had with a listener and it went like this:

Caller: Hi, why are you playing so much music by The Who?

DJ: I don't know, some bass player died.

I just about drove off the road...

Ratings are NOT doing better.Sponcers have pulled out of kgb.Unplug the mic?I believe the Mic's they use for broadcasting are hard wired..I dont EVEN listen to KGB anymore.KLOS.

He sounds like the kind of guys we'd had to hire to do Sunday mornings on small town stations: the announcer test was to say your name correctly three times in a row without using "um" or "you know" too many times. Really it sounds like someone at KGB thought "Well if Clear Channel wants to do radio on the cheap, I'll show them how cheap it can really be."

Hate to break it to you kids....but KGB mornings seem to be doing just fine with BC. Maybe people just want music and not alot of blab. We all expected them to fall off a cliff, but it seems it is steady as she goes. I guess BC did afternoons for a really long time at Rock 105. Never heard him myself. Maybe it was a smart move right after a huge morning show leaves. Lay lown and kind of let things settle out. Whatever he is doing, he is holding on to really good numbers. And judging by the zillion commercials playing, no sponsors left.

It's still bad radio: or at least bad radio announcing, really bad, but brief, thankfully.

Agree about BC. He is a little dry, but I am enjoying the music during my commute. As for the sponsors, I haven't noticed a difference. The ones DSC used to read live have just gone to Coe and Brian. I listen to KGB everyday, there seems to be just as many commercials as there always was.

the ratings on KGB have bounced back, and BC has been on the air on one station or another (91X, Rock 105, KGB) for over ten years. He is a pro.

That may have been, and he may be the nicest guy in town, but he sure doesn't sound like one nowadays and KGB would be a lot better with no talk in the morning.

News Flash: He's not "in town." BC has always done his show from Florida (back when he was on KIOZ), and now as well. Most fo the voices you hear on CC stations are not even in California, and the majority are not "live."

Everybody has to start somewhere.
Let's show a little support for new talent

Complaining about another broadcaster because "we don't like how they sound on the radio" should be off limits.
Everyone has a different style.

You should have put a smiley face after that. Or were you serious?

I am glad DSC is off the air. Their show would be great on Sirius/XM but not on regular radio. I want to hear classic rock - not talk!

Yeah, no no. He's the Forum Police and is the decider of what is off limits here. :)

I'm sorry - I just don't know why I thought that a forum about radio would be the place to discuss the quality of radio programming. My bad.

I fully disagree.DSC helped alot of people over the years.grand a day everyday giveaway. They will be back somewhere. If you want a good classic rock station.KLOS.Still missin the DSC!!!

Glad to see that BC has come over from Rock 105.3!
I've never been a fan of the Mikey show and was not sorry to see him go, but the loss of BC in the afternoons on KIOZ made me start listening to other stations.
I like KGB well enough. I've listened off and on since I was a kid. I listen more now that BC is here.
BC has a nice delivery. Easy to listen to. He's not a "Puker" and doesn't sound like he's always trying to sell you something.
You can hear the smirk on his face and the irreverent sense of humor is something sorely lacking elsewhere.
I hope he sticks around for a long time.
