KGDP 660 AM Oildale now testing

KGDP 660 AM Oildale is now on the air and testing, KGDP formely of Orcutt will reduce its former 10,000 watt daytime down to 8000 watts and increase its night time signal to 6000 watts up from 1000 watts. The signal was herd in Lancaster at 30th street west and Ave. L with a rather weak signal, KERN 1410 @ 1000watts had a better signal. KGDP's four tower array sends most of its signal to the west with a null towards Lancaster, to protect the 670 AM move from Simi Valley to Antelope Acres, a move strongly apposed by Antelope Acres residents.

KIRN's CP for 35 kw expired 09/15/2006 and was never built. No longer a problem for KGDP.

From their application:
"This instant application has been prepared in accordance with the applicable Commission’s
AM Rules and requests a modification of the KGDP(AM) construction permit for an increase in day
and nighttime power to 8 and 6 kW respectively, utilizing a four tower directional antenna system.
The proposed increase in power for KGDP(AM) is possible due to the expiration of the authorized
facilities of first adjacent channel station KIRN, Simi Valley, CA."

Thanks for the update; Local residents and two local engineers were left out of the loop. KGDP might want to adjust their day pattern and add another 400,000 people to their coverage area.

The thing that bothers me is their claim on their website that the construction permit allows their power to increase to 50KW. It may be that they are interpreting the directional 8KW signal as being equivalent to 50KW, but it is not going to be an improvement to their central coast coverage, which is what they seem to be implying to their supporters. They will gain coverage in the valley at the cost of signal coverage in the area where their present supporters live. On the other hand, the signal loss is in the area that continues to be served by KGDP FM.
