KGFN - Goldfield

Want something different in independent low power radio, Google call letters, then hit "tune in" listen online which is easy to find and listen to voice of the west.

Even better than listening on tune-in....check out their cute little studio set up if you're doing the Reno to Vegas mega drive. They're right across the street from the old haunted Goldfield Hotel next to the gift shop. A really nice community radio setup with a great big window looking out at Route 95 and the Goldfield.

Two interesting facts:

KGFN's 60 dbu contour covers 270 people.

Goldfield is in the Los Angeles, CA, television DMA!

Wow!! I didn't know Jim marsh owned all those hotel properties. The scary part is how many of them I've stayed in! I especially love the stuffed bear in the Tonopah Station lobby! David...I love your facts! On a side note...haven't heard KHWK on the air recently? Anyone have any knowledge of this?

KHWG; yeah...daytime wise they are a boomer, I tune them in from time to time. At one time they were simulcast on their sister...KHWG-FM, 100.1 in Crystal (up on Mt. Shader on the AZ/NV Tower Co. tower there). That station went spanish last year. Interestingly...KHWG-FM 100.1 is an elective directional with a very directional antenna pointed south to Pahrump. I'm sure they don't want to waste power over the NV Test Site or the Nellis test range. It does kill them up Rt 95 north, hard to get even in Amargosa Valley and gone in Beatty...even though its practically line of site over by the beatty airfield.

Thread hijacking, but hilltop church goal with the beams was to cover pahrump. Also, 100.1 is on low Potosi with beams pointed toward Vegas. Mexicans got it on an airtime lease. Hilltop church still owns it.

DNez...there's two diff 100.1's...on either side of the Pahrump valley. I believe they are a simulcast. KHWG-FM, Crystal is at Shader and K261BZ, Las Vegas is lower Potasi. Its also on K244CE, 96.7 in Pahrump the last I heard it.
