KGMG operating staff canned

What is wrong with radio management in Tucson? Where is the straight ahead OLDIES FORMAT?? Oldies has proven itself in many PPM markets. Is anyone awake in Tucson? Guess not.

Oldies died around here; the same tired voices who spun those records back when they were 45's we the ones perpetuating the format.

Uh oh, I think someone just dissed Alan Michaels. Are we allowed to do that? ;)

Like the Nostalgia format before it, straight ahead oldies of the 50s & 60s is best relegated to the internet now. It is not a salable format generally speaking across the US. The demos are too old.

Um, not disrespect if it's truth. ;D

First of all, I believe that we all feel badly what happened to the on air staff at MEGA 106-3..however, we know of many personalities before them that were "laid off" the past couple of years. Just to name a few-Allan Michaels, AC Cook, Jonas and Andy...you get the picture. These professionals, to the best of my knowledge, are not on the air in Tucson. But they are more than good enough to be on the air-playing almost any kind of music they choose.
A few mentioned the Oldies format...that it's tired and run it's course.I disagree. I'll give you this, that the "regular" oldies listener-the '60's and '70's ,music fan is older..but try to get ANYONE who doesn't know Beach Boys songs, Beatles, many Motown, Stones and so on. Granted, you can't base a format on just these artists...but it's not a bad start. If the brain dead people at CC would have left 92.9 COOL fm alone...instead of wasting the signal with the aweful Mountain disaster and it's lackluster on air people...COOL might be a station like Phoenix 94.5...doing great in the ratings. I understand Oldies 92.9 still had better ratings any most of Mountains' numbers.

Oh, do you mean the "Empty 92.9"?

I visit a lot of radio markets and all have some form of oldies format. The return of CBS-FM is valid proof that the oldies or Adult Hits format is NOT dead. A fun oldies station in Tucson would be a HIT!!! (That's a hint).

And Please, GET RID OF Foghat's "Slow Ride". It's a CRISPY CRITTER that SHOULD NEVER be heard again.

While you're at it, bring back Rich 'Brother' Robbin and Alan Michaels.

That is all for now...

I think Brown Eyed Girl needs to be tossed--or given a real long rest--before Foghat!

Looking at today's summer Arbitron, it would appear that KGMG is doing better than that talk stuff on "The Truth". No surprise that the brass at Journal would blow up a station with more bodies to cut. It's just another example of their ruthless budget axes fall without regard. Probably was a sales issue, and the solution to sales problems is to whack programming people.

I listened when "The Groove" launched this morning.

How underwhelming.

Seems like Journal canned the staff that actually seemed to care to launch the exact same radio station with no dj's and a cookie cutter thousand dollar cash contest that you have to participate in online.

Journal used to be America's Best Local Broadcast Company. This is proof they're now encouraging listening to ipods.

Hope the station clients are snowed.

I agree with you-I return from a few days away-and nothing changed at MEGA or should I say Measley 106. Speaking of changes, any thoughts of what might happen at Cumulus-it seems they are reducing staff in many markets since the purchase. It uncanny-but it's like the Clear Channel wave that took the industry from one coast to the other. Hope most are ok here in Tucson.

Re: "Cookie cutter" contest--Of the five format-friendly song snippets one has to name, I've IDed "Groove Me" (King Floyd) and "Groove Is In the Heart" (Deee-Lite). So, making the assumption that all five have 'groove' as part of the title, I'll bet two of the other four are probably "Groove Line" and "One Nation Under a Groove". Can't think of a fifth 'groove' off the top of my head...

Got a third one: "Into the Groove" (Madonna). Should've been an obvious one.

Here's the five "grooves": "Shake Your Groove Thing" (duh--even more obvious!), "Into the Groove", "Groove Me", "Groove Is In the Heart", and "Groove Line".
Now everyone can win that thousand bucks! ;D
